I need a device that can preview images for clients,
have direct tv slide shows,
reliable copy from compact CF and microdrive
portable and robust in the field

Firewire would be nice but does not seem available yet.

I am looking at the Flash Trax or the Phototainer at the moment could any users let me know if they are any good.

I got a FlashTrax today from the d-store and it died after I played with it for about 30 min - I think that the hard drive cacked. I am sending it back for a replacement. While it worked, I wasn't too impressed with the display quality. If you want to preview images, I would suggest a notebook computer instead.

thanks for the feed back,
it is useful

I might go with the new x-drive if it has an output for tv built in, I know they are not too robust or reliable as no verification on the copy but a lot cheaper.

I don't think the X-Drive II has a video output. I know the X-Drive I has none. It's not designed for that purpose. And there's nothing wrong with their reliability. I have been using mine for about a year now and it's not skipped a beat. They are VERY reliable.
