Hello all,
I have two small jewellery web sites and run on a limited budget. I always struggle to achieve good quality photo's and have decided to spend some money on some studio lighting as I think this may be where I'm going wrong, I've read the post's in this forum but I'm still left with questions.
My current set up is that I have digital canon ixus 500, a 30cm cubelite box, and I use 4 18watt daylight helix bulbs in aluminium reflector's.

I was looking at something like buying two 500w Tungsten 3200K (int 100) which are around £45 to £55 each with bulb.
Would this improve the quality of my pictures?
Would anyone have any advice on jewellery photography or my set up and how to improve it. I really only have about £100 to spend.
Please see attached file to as my present photo quality, this has been edited in photo package.

Please excuse my limited knowledge, I'm a complete beginner.

Welcome to POTN :)

My best suggestion is to use a light box and multiple light sources, or some source of very diffuse light. I remember seeing a good thread on this, i'm too tired to find it for you sorry, the search engine should find it for you. Studio strobes won't help without a good understanding of light and reflections.

This photo (http://mrwild.co.nz/unprotected/wp/ds11.jpg) is done with bounced flash - effectively a huge diffuse light source. There was a little light going direct to the rings because of how I oriented the flash, I was using an on-camera soft box bounced from a low roof so most of the light was very diffuse. There's some obvious photoshop work in there just ignore that it's not important to the exposure.

Take a look here (http://www.photoflexlightingschool.com/Lighting_Lessons/Basic_Lighting/Product___Still_Life/Ring/index.html) or here (http://www.photoflexlightingschool.com/Lighting_Lessons/Basic_Lighting/Product___Still_Life/Jewelry_1/index.html)
Bit of a 'sponsored link', but it will give you an idea.
