Just looking for some opinions, for candid people photos, would there be much difference in IQ ? I have my sons graduation coming up, and of course want shots of him with family, and was wondering just take the s100,, or take the 50d with the kit lens?

Why not both? If you might carry the 50D, may as well chuck in the S100.

50D for the important family photo's outside, S100 inside where you'll be snapping around whilst talking and shaking hands etc....

I'd take the 50D + kit + 55-250mm in case you're seated far and want to catch him sitting in the middle of his class.

"would there be much difference in IQ".
Of course there will be.. But without an identical image taken from the other camera, does it really matter.. And out of these snaps, how many will make it to any kind of print ? the ones that you think will be printed, from the get-go, use the 50D for.

Personally, I'd only take one- if anything, if anyone accompanies you- give them the S100.. I think it'd look odd to have a perfectly good DSLR around your neck, yet you whip out a P&S...
