Greetings - I just got an Elan 7 (EOS 33) film body as a backup for my 20D that would also give me film capability. I also just picked up a set of Travelites (monoblock strobes), and then discovered that my Elan7 does not have a PC sync socket.

No problem, right? Just buy a $12 pc/hotshoe adapter, slide it on the hotshoe, and plug in the sync cord. One would have thought...

Unfortunately, it does not work. The adapter had a single large contact in the center, which aligned with the large center contact on the Elan shoe. But for some reason it simply refused to fire the strobe. Odd thing was that when I slid the adapter back and forth on the shoe, it would randomly/intermittently fire the strobes, so it was making some sort of contact - just not the contact needed for normal use.

Does this sound like a defective generic adapter, or the need for a dedicated (ie, expensive) Canon accessory?

Thanks for any insight.

-Tom

It does sound like you have a defective adapter. Suggest you buy another better quality one with brand name ( Hama, Kaiser etc ). I use a canon hotshoe adapter which i bought on ebay very cheaply. Good luck. :)

This is the one I use with my 300d.

No problems with it at all except that it stretches out the tip of the pc cord, so I have one cord designated for this only.
