View Full Version : Problem: A70, TWAIN drivers and W2K Pro

Hello!

Similar problems have been already described, but they were not exactly as mine and also none of the proposed solutions worked for me. So I ask again.

Configuration: A70, W2K Pro SP3, Canon Camera TWAIN Driver 6.0.0.11, ZoomBrowser 4.1.0.46.

I installed all the stuff exactly according to the "Software Starter Guide". After reboot I connected the camera and switched it on (in the Replay mode, of course). The hardware installation popup appeared for some time (first it had usual USB drive icon, then it changed to "scaner/camera" icon), then disappeared. The camera stayed switched on, both green lights near the viewfinder were lit and the LCD displayed the last taken picture.

I then started ZoomBrowser. I clicked "Camera and Memory Card", then "Browse and Download images". The main window disappeared and then, after some time, I got "Camera was not found" message box.

I tried several times to reinstall either all Canon software or TWAIN drivers only. I also tried to press "Update driver" in the device properties dialog invoked from the Device Manager. All this didn't help.

I will, no doubt, contact official technical support and buy CF-USB adapter. But if anybody here can give me any clue, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I forgot to mention that at about the same time when the "Camera was not found" message box appeared, the LCD on the camera was switched off and one of the green ligths near the viewfinder was switched off as well.

I also didn't mention that the same behavior (with, probably, different ways to display the error messages) was observed when I tried to acquire images via TWAIN from Adobe Photoshop or Paintshop Pro.

I had a similar problem posted below with S400 camera. No solution yet. Please keep us posted as to what you find.

I am a new user of G3 and I've encountered the same problem. I've installed the software step by step and got the same results. Now my CF is saying that my images are corrupted and may lose my pics. I've already spent several hours of install/uninstall. I am using Windows XP Pro and my USB is being recognized by the PC. Any help is truly appreciated. Thanks

I spent a week try to solve the problems between ZoomBrowser 4.1 and windows 2000. My home PC doesn't work but my office PC works well. Finally, I use a card reader to download the images at home. It's fast & secure and it's not expensive.

Do you have the still image service running ?

USB "image events" won't work with Win2K if you dont.

Did you try to change the communication setting in your camera? You can choose between PtP and Normal, and my S45 is set to Normal.

The only cameras that have this feature in the menu are the S45, S230, and the G3.

The probable fix for his problem is for him to go to his Control Panel, click on Administrative Tools, click on Services and see if Still Image Service is started. If it's not, just click on it, then click on the play icon at the top.

Oops! I've just read your idea about "Still Image Service" and decided to look how the service is configured on my office PC. It is stopped and set to manual startup. Unfortunately, my camera is at home. I will try it next week and report the results. Thanks for the idea, anyway!

More or less same set-up. Try this!

Go to control panel, switch on Camera in download mode, go to properties, events, make sure Zoom browser (only) is ticked. Hit Apply and it will say Camera Detected. OK etc. and close. Switch camera off and then on again in download mode and Zoom browser will start up automatically.

Best of luck.

What kind of computer are you using?

I had similar problems when I upgraded from Win98 to Win2000 earlier this month. The root cause ended up being that I needed to update the firmware on my laptop. After that, everything worked fine. Might want to at least check with your manufacturer.. couldn't hurt. You might have to go to the motherboard manufacturer's website, especially if it is a desktop PC.
