Does anyone know of a way to just access the compact flash card while it's in the camera instead of using the ImageBrowser software, which comes bundled with the camera? I'm sure I can go out and buy a reader and do it that way, but I was wondering if there's a work-around. I also have a Sony CyberShot and it's cool because the memory stick is easily accessible via the desktop.

Cheers,
Mike

Well, you can use iPhoto to import the pictures.

I've been using iPhoto instead of the bundled software. I guess I flash card reader might be my only other option.

I think Breezebrowser comes with a seperate downloader utility.

If I don't see any other responses confirming this I will check it out and let you know.

Yes there is as long as you've installed the driver that comes with the camera or at least in the PC world that's true--can't see why it shouldn't apply in the Mac world. You can access the images in the camera as if it were just another drive. You should be able to use your file manager to drag and drop the files in the camera to your hard drive. Or, you can use photoshop or any other editor to import the images from the camera much like you would when using a scanner.

PacAce I also come from a sony, and a short answer: get a reader.

No PTP USB mode in the camera provides OS X CF mounting (all updates applied, G3 firmware updated etc), and if you use iphoto for download, it will hang if there is any RAW file in the card.

Canon software s***s hard. Is even worse (unstable).

Readers are cheap, I guess it's not worth the worry... get one, unless you are never going to use RAW.

How about using Image Capture instead? If you want to bypass iPhoto, that is.

I tried it and it just hung like iphoto (I shoot raw).

I remembered the easyness I had with the P71 dragging around and got a card reader... easier and no big deal. Guess that's why Canon doesn't pay much attention to the matter; I haven't looked back to that issue since.

I know Image Capture has worked for me (however, I don't normally shoot raw). I'll have to experiment with it and get back to you.
