Hi Darrell, welcome to photography and this great forum! This is a good place for both jabbering with other photographers and learning valuable information -- two places to make sure you spend some time in are the "Talk About Photography/General Photography Talk" subforum and the Raw/Post Processing and Printing" subforu. Read the "Stickies" at the top of those sections and you get a ton of great information to help you solidify your skills in capturing images and in getting the best out of those images.

Hve fun, and enjoy your photography!

Hello I'm from San Antonio, TX (Go Spurs :p)

I'm 22 years old and have had an interest in getting into photography for a long time and have recently made the leap and bought a dslr. I was really into Digital Media when I was in high school, but then my interest focused on Computer Programming (currently a senior CS major). My interest peeked again when I dug up my father's old Canon AE-1 (took their wedding photos and my baby photos ^_^) and started shooting. Right now I have a Canon XSi(450d), 18-55mm kit lens, and 50mm f1.8 and love finding an excuse to take it out and shoot. Right now I'm trying to learn all I can and am very excited.

Hello there. I'm Russ. I'm in University Park PA right now, but live in Nanticoke PA, near Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. I got my first DSLR in July 2007 off of ebay. It was a rebel and came with the kit lens and an 80-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II. That lasted me quite a while until I got a 50D a few weeks ago.

My gear is in my sig. Hoping to get a job finally and save up for better lenses and other stuff.

Well blow me down! Didn't even know this thread existed...
Right, here goes!
I'm Simon "Skygod44" and I was born in London, England at the "right" end of the 1960s. Been into photography since around 1979 - mainly Nikon, and all film-based until my first digital camera in 2004!
Got some photos published in a few journals and got into studio photography from 1986~1990, when life and my first wife took me away from cameras....don't ask why!
Now I live in Japan (Kyushu) with my second wife and two kids and wow(!) is life fantastic here!!!
I run my own English school, have a photography business on the side and am always open to more ideas that'll pay the bills without causing me to age prematurely.
Philosophy in life....? See my sig. for what I think really counts.
See you all in the forums....and welcome to all who are new to POTN, but unlike me, noticed this thread quicker!!!

Hey everyone,
My name is Nick. I just stumbled across this forum and have been lurking ever since! The abundance of information is mind boggling! I plan on sticking around and learning as much as I can about photography in order to improve my shooting. I've always enjoyed photography, last year I went on a trip to Korea and purchased a Canon G10 to accompany me and I never turned back!! Now I just recently ordered a Canon T1i with 18-55 and 55-250 for $799. It should be here any day and I can't wait to start shooting with it! I hope to learn a lot and also contribute to the community.

Photography kind of fell into my lap, started as a hobby and has grown into a business that I started about 6 months ago. My goal is to solely work for myself in 2 years.

I hope to get to know many of you through this forum. I've been lurking for a while now and already I've learned so much.

Hi, my name is Joe. This is my very first post.

I'm a father, public school orchestra director, musician (bassist), and a newbie photographer.

I play bass (electric and upright) in a few bands. I love all kinds of music, but some of my favorites are MMW, Wilco, James Brown, Barenaked Ladies, and Beastie Boys. I know... very different styles. I like my music raw, organic, and funky. :D

I just got an sx120is. It was in my price range and it has a lot of manual controls where I can learn how to make adjustments. I'm kind of a nerd when it comes to learning new things. I went to the library and got out several books on digital photography. I spend most of the weekend trying to learn some of the lingo.

I spent a good amount of time reading the .pdf manual that came with my camera. I tried some stuff out, but I didn't have great results... YET.

I'm looking forward to getting to know the ropes, take some great photos and share them with you. I'm also looking forward to what sort of gear is available and how it can help me take better pictures. Also some little tips and tricks that don't cost any money at all.

I belong to a bass player forum and I'm familiar with most of the gear and techniques over there. HERE, I have no idea where to start... none. I'm just going to start floating around and see where I gravitate. See you around.

Peace & Music,
Joe

PS. Where is the best place to host my photos for sharing/posting? PhotoBucket, Flickr...

Hey Joe! Welcome to POTN and don't worry about being a bit of a nerd, you'll fit in well here, as this is the place where a lot of us to "get our nerd on" while out there, in the real world, we kinda hide it....
And that's a cute little camera you've just bought, but beware the massive desire you'll get soon to change it into a digital SLR (dSLR) which is what, I think, the majority of us fools have here!
Moving on to the jargon, just scroll through the main menu threads and you'll pick it all up very quickly, I'm sure.
And as to photo-hosting, a lot use Flickr, so go with it, if you like!
:D

Simon

Thanks. I'm sure you're right. :p

Right now, I'm pretty lost in all the abbreviations and which functions are available in each mode and how they'll impact the overall product. I'm trying to find some easy to follow online tutorials to teach me the ropes.

Do people over in this forum get GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)? Or, is that just for musicians?

PS. Where is the best place to host my photos for sharing/posting? PhotoBucket, Flickr... I prefer PhotoBucket & have zero problems with them. I don't like Flickr's terms & conditions, or the way they display images.
Read this if/when you set it up.
From their support:
Before uploading your images to your Photobucket account, choose either a
display or file size that is equal to or larger than that of your images. You
can do this by clicking on the 'Uploading Options' link in your upload panel
and then on the radio button next to your preferred size. If an option is
grayed out, this means the option is not available for your Photobucket
account type. Selecting a size larger than your images will prevent further
resizing upon upload and help expedite the upload process. To make the changes
permanent, you must upload at least one image from the upload panel. This is
important for Pro users using FTP or anyone using the Windows XP Publisher. If
you choose to use the file size options, the file size of the original image
will take precedence over the the display size and any display size is
accepted as long as the file size is less than your choice in the 'Uploading
Options'.
I always click on the image to get the 100% size that I've uploaded, & then use that URL for display.

Only today discovered this "Introductions" thread. So here we go (although if you Google on my nickname you'll get plenty of links with info...)

Born during WW2, feeding on tulip bulbs and sugar beetroot mash, I grew up in the Netherlands. Trained as a lawyer and ran insurance companies later in life. My first SLR was an -now forgotten - Eastern European cheapy but took beautiful B/W shots. Film development, printing and enlarging was done in the blacked-out bathroom. I even managed to change film in the dark in a toilet while "en route" from 100ISO to 400ISO when necessary... Still got some of the old shots on the wall.

Then a hectic life with lots of travelling and occasional snap shots with first analog and later digital point and shoots. Heaps of slides which I have been scanning lately.

Now - in retirement - I started with an Ixus in 1999, then upgraded to a 400D, followed by a 50D and the current 5D2, getting some glass on the way. Getting really back into it and enjoying every minute. It is even taking over what I always thought would be my "main" hobby: amateur radio (hence the nickname) and priorities in spending hobby money is shifting towards photography.... Just as well as my electronics gear will probably last for a while....

My interest in the forum is to help starters - as I think I know some basics about photography from my early days - and keeping up to date with new developments, new gear and new techniques. Try them out (mainly the new ideas and techniques :) ) and where useful report on my experiences.

Thanks to all the "old Hands" around - appreciate all the stickies and other useful info on this excellent forum!.

Joe, greetings and welcome to the forum! Relax and have some fun with your photography -- don't feel bad for starting with the basics, using Auto modes and getting a feel of what your camera can do. As you try different things and keep reading up, you will always get prepared for you next step!

Henk, you are joining a very venerable tradition of people who've put years into photography and have "wet their whistle" with digital photography. Your insights are welcome, and you are welcome to enjoy the benefits of the digital realm. Jump in and have some fum!

Have gotten serious with my photography later in life, and would love to pursue it more but with the coming of children and my full time employment its real to do those jobs that are now coming fast and furious. I've been lurking in the shadows reading and learning alot from the pros on this site and it's been wonderful. I've gotten a free education from so many great photographers I feel a little guilty not having to pay for this knowledge (but I'll get over that real quick).

Great images! You have to involve digital to turn AE 1 images into HDR, LOL!

We are long time cyclists too, but the last AE1 I had contact with was the one I gave my Son in 1977!
You do it honor with your images!

HI,
I joined today to make full use of the capabilities of my new gear: Canon 5D Mark II with 24 to 105 F/4L zoom. I have used Canon EOS Rebel DSLR, for a few years now and will keep my EOS xsi, with 18- 55 mm and 70 to 300 mm lens, to attach to Orion 80mm apochromatic refractor and Celestron 9.25 SCT telescopes. I still have my film 35 mm cameras a Nikon F and a Leica m3.
I work for an IT corporation and on weekends I shoot paper, steel or clay targets with my pistols and rifles.
I am glad to find this forum

Relatively new, but i only just came in this forum.

James, just turned 20 a month ago. Second year student at Cambridge University, from Buckinghamshire. I got properly into photography a couple of years ago as I moved from the 'taking loads of photos' to thinking 'hang on, why don't I actually try and get some really good ones'. Got a 400D which i still use along with a new 5D Mk 2 and 24-105L. Ideally i'd like to be a wildlife photographer, or a cameraman- i'm intending on doing an MA in photography when i'm done with my degree.
Aside from photography my main interest is squash, but I do a fair amount of other sport, and some music as well.

Hey guys, my name's Jim, I'm 25 years old and am from southern Minnesota.
I've been into photography for the last few years.
I joined the forum a while ago to lurk in the for sale forums and have looked around and decided I'll start posting

I shoot with a Rebel xt that i'm considering upgrading to a 50d or 7d or whatever's out come tax return time.
I have the 10-22, 70-200 f4l, tamron 28-75, a 430ex and a 540ez as well as a bunch of other stuff - oh can't forget the $5 Pentax k1000 with 50 f2 from a garage sale:cool:
I actually just got the 10-22 off CL last week and got the 70-200 about a month and a half ago but it's been well below 0 for the last few weeks here so I've been limited to playing with my new toys in the house.

Other than that I like cars, snowmobiles, biking, xbox, and woodworking.
Well, that's me, look forward to talking to all of you!

Hello!

My name is Sam. I'm 21 years old and I'm a photojournalism major at The University of Cincinnati. I've been shooting photos seriously for about 7 years now, making the DSLR transition about 3 years ago when I bought a Nikon D50.

I still use the D50 regularly, but I plan on buying a Canon 7D next week and taking the leap into the Canon world from here on out. I'm pretty excited about it, and I've been looking forward to switching ever since they introduced the 7D which happened to be perfect timing for me to be looking for a more serious camera.

I shoot stuff on a freelance basis here and there but what I do most now is shoot on assignment for the student news paper at UC. I plan to make a career in journalism after school, so shooting for the paper has been a lot of fun.

Anyway, this looks like a pretty cool place and I imagine I'll be here pretty often once I get rolling in the Canon world.

Evening, ya'll!

I'm just getting into photography, and I am taking a digital photography class at my university. I just purchased a Canon Rebel XS (will arrive soon) and look forward to diving into really learning how to take great pictures. I guess you could say frustration after several trips without a halfway decent camera to record the memories has finally pushed me to get the best equipment I can afford.

I look forward to getting to know everybody better soon, and you are sure to see me seeking out advice on the best gear for the dollar soon...

Welcome all new people!!!

And @Sam, you must let us know how you like the 7D....
It's something I'm seriously considering now that the 1D4 has come out, and is still in need of a diet. Picked up the 7D yesterday at a local shop and held it next to my 30D, and boy, you can tell it's a serious chunk of gear. But sadly, Missus Skygod says I have to wait until spring so that all the new release "issues" are done and dusted with!
Damn her wise words!!!!

Hey, everyone!

My name is D'Juan, and I'm just getting into photography seriously. I've wanted to get a better camera than my Canon SD1000 for years, but there's no time like the present!

I spent the day looking at both the Rebel XSi and the T1i. I find that I'm leaning toward the T1i because of the video capabilities and sharper LCD. Also, in my personal opinion, the pictures look a tad bit better. :D

Here's hoping that I can become a part of this community, and a better photographer from it's knowledge.

Hi all

I split my time designing websites and shooting portraits for people and what ever else a client wants.

I have only recently in the last couple of years returned to photography after a very very long layoff the last time I was taking pictures it was with film and my camera body was a T90!

I'm Tim from Northern VA just outside DC. I've just started getting into photography seriously after studying visual effects for movies/tv (do that freelance now). I take photos of my local high school hockey team and a few other events around town, but really looking to get a staff position somewhere.

I have the 7D and besides shooting photos, I shoot short films with it.

Hello!
I'm Len and while searching for information on my entry into digital photography, I was fortunate enough to have stumbled upon the POTN website. I will admit to stalking the site for a couple of months before joining, but I eventually reached the conclusion that POTN had the best combined content and people of any photographic site out there. Also during my stalking phase; I selected a few items to purchase that seem to be relatively unanimous in their user satisfaction. Based upon my needs and member feedback, I have selected the following items for my first DSLR system: (drum roll please) the Canon 7D, 10-22, 17-55 IS, 100L Macro IS, 70-200L F4 IS. (I just ordered three of the lenses to take advantage of the recent Canon rebate). Anyway, I ‘m confident these tools will serve my needs and I look forward to traveling this new path with you all. Thanks for all the contributions that make this site a great place to visit.

this may be a little late but heres my introduction.

Ive always liked photography but i seriously got into it when my sister's husband bought a Canon Xti. i played around with it and i didnt know what i was doing and i did a really good subtle bokeh background. and from then on i aimed to get a DSLR.

well, i didnt get a DSLR until after 2 years, when my finances freed up a lil bit and got me a Canon XSi with the kit lens and some other stuff used from a different site. that was october of 2009. Ever since then, whenever im off from work, 99% of the time, people will see me with my camera bag and the camera hanging around my neck taking images of almost everything just to get experience and playing around with the setting.

i started off shooting in AV mode and worked my way to full manual mode. first lens i purchased was the 50mm 1.8 which i use for portraits and i also have the 18-135mm IS for my walkaround lens. im hoping that sometime soon i would be able to get the new 7D with the 24-70L. but that means i have to start saving up now.

my gear is listed on my sig. not much, but i make due with what i got. like i told El Jong, if i can shoot half as great as him, or other talented photogs here, ill be happy. but since i know my human nature and my competetiveness kicks in, once i get there, i will aim higher.

and thats what i like about photography, everyday you learn something new and its always an evolution. im saying that because im getting frustrated at my images at one point in time that i thought the camera body is whats lacking but then i found out that i can do something else to make the image better, and that as of right now, having a 7D is only a "want", and not a need. for two reasons, first is this is only a hobby, at least for now. second, im still learning and getting a new camera body would just throw me into a whole other loop. which i dont really need since theres still A LOT to learn. i have to crawl before i can walk, as they say.

Currently, I am teaching at my old high school (which is so weird). I am what I would call a serious amateur at photography. I bought my first DSLR (a Rebel XSi) in August of 2008. I currently have the kit lens (18-55), a 50mm 1.8, and the 70-200 f4L, plus a 430EX flash. I like to shoot landscapes, but I am also interested in getting into portraiture.

Hey all, nice to find a forum like this, isn't it?

My name is Tanner and I am a 21 year old planning on photography as a living! No school at all yet as I am in the very early stages of this process, and I have so many questions.

I have been shooting casually as a hobby for about 6 and a half years and am now just beginning to consider photography seriously as a career. Not knowing anybody with similar interests as myself, and not having the opportunity to attend any type of photography school thus far, it's great to find so many skilled and talented photographers all in one place. Wow.

I have been browsing the site a little bit and just have to say, the skill and depth of discussion here blow me away. The technical jargon is like Greek to me, and I can only imagine having the know-how to shoot such excellent photos one day. I am seeing photos of Great Whites in South Africa, and reading comments from the Official Photographer of Lamborghini Miami. Wow -- all I can say is wow. Two of my dreams suddenly seem a little bit closer having realized that there are REAL people out there doing these things!

I am in awe and look forward to soaking up as much information from this place as I can. Thank you all very much!

I have not been here in some time. Life got in the way:( but I am now back and excited to learn more and experiment more.

My passion is taking photos of dogs and horses since my life is full of both. I have so much to learn and really wish I could find a mentor of sorts to hang out with so I could really learn.

For now I just shoot and shoot and use different settings and if I'm really lucky I will get that 1 or 2 perfect shots.

It has been way to cold to take pictures in the last couple of days I tried today but within 5min I could not feel my hands.

I look forward to seeing all your amazing photos and learn as much as I can.

You have a very nice selection of equipment for a starter! Best of luck to you!

Awesome forum forwarded by a friend (don't know his user name. x_x)

Started off with a Canon XTi, a Canon 50mm f/1.8 II and a Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 w/IS. Then got myself a Canon 10-22mm and a month later a Canon 24-70 f/2.8L. Last week, I got my Canon 430ex.

Did mostly car photography and i've had lots of my friends say i've gotten better over time. Joined this forum because I love looking through the Lens Sample Archive. Hopefully, I gain some more knowledge with my time spent here.

Now, I have a Canon 40d with all those equipment listed above minus the 18-55.

My name is Paul, and I am addicted to photography. Even though I own a company with three divisions in Business Solutions, I also have started a photography business. I am a business consultant, rainmaker, entrepreneur, author of two main books on business, author of 9 mini-books on business, and was fortunate enough to take our company national in less than two years, with clients coast to coast and border to border. We have created a Cash Flow System that takes getting your money from 45-90 days to less than 72 hours and often within 6 hours as well as created a system of cash flow that brings you continuity dollars every month, often to the tune of thousands.

We have two seminars that will eventually go nationwide in business. But my true love is photography and even though i am in my early 60's i have a lot of life before me.

G'day from the land down under :) My name is Debbie and i live in a little town in South Est Queensland, Australia. I am 34 years young and have 4 adorable, still challenging, children. They do take up most of my time but when i get a few spare moments i'll head out with the camera and see what i can find. My camera is a basic DSLR, 1000D with a couple of lenses. I'm looking forward to delving through the masses of photographs, from all over the world, and learning all that i can along the way. Thanks for having me :)

I found this forum searching for information on basic techniques and equipment for a new DSLR.

My name is Andy, I'm a software engineer from Tucson, Arizona. I've always enjoyed taking a lot of pictures on trips and hikes. I've been taking digital pictures since 1999. I have a p&s Canon S40 that I still use and recently bought a Canon Rebel XSi with the 18-55 IS lens. I can take good pictures outdoors in Manual mode, but I'm still learning to take my camera everywhere and take noticeably great photographs, and trying to produce more creative images. I'm really impressed by the examples that get posted in the forums.

I really enjoy the knowledge shared at the forum that I've found so far. Seems like a fun forum so I thought I would post in the intro thread before posting elsewhere.

Hi all,
My 'real' name is Pete and I live in NW England. I am 51 (next week) and a computer analyst programmer (COBOL) by trade.
I live with my wife and 2 late teenage kids.
Previous photographic experience has been with compact point and shoot cameras. My gorgeous fantastic loving wife bought me an EOS 1000D for my 51st birthday, so I'm the new boy round here with lots to learn.
Hoping to probably pick a few brains over the coming months/years.

Other hobbies, reading computer games and 'The Discworld'.

my name is Steve and I live in Kitchener, Ontario. I'm really new to "serious" photography other than using a point-and-shoot for family gatherings. My profession is a web designer and I wanted to get into photography to take pictures I could use for my websites.

I'm really impressed with the knowledge and talent range of the members in this forum and looking forward to learning more!

Hi all, my name is Jon, brand new to photography, coming from just regular everyday shots with a PowerShot SD790 IS. Bought the 550D/t2i as it seemed to be a great beginner DSLR and really wanted the 1080p video. Got into photography just as a hobby, if some day I can make anything off it that works too. Look forward to learning a lot!

Hi all,
I'm Vinay, originally from India, but currently residing in Northern Virginia, close to DC. Have been posting here for some time now, but came across this thread only today. I first started out with a Yashica film P &S. Then I got myself a Fuji Finepix S2000, then a Canon S2IS, Canon Rebel XT and finally with a Canon 50D. I still have all my previous cameras, except the XT. I am mainly into landscape and aviation photography.

Happy shootin' everyone!

Hey!
I'm Deb. I live in Harpswell, Maine and I am a stay at home mom to my 3 kiddos. Started taking photos in HS and then got sidetracked with college, work, marriage, kids. Bought my first digital back in 2004 (Rebel XT) and fell in love with photography again. I love anything to do with nature and have become somewhat obsessed with dragonflies and damselflies. I still have a lot to learn, but I'm having fun in the process! I am thankful for this forum and the wonderful, knowledgeable people that are willing to answer questions and offer their experiences.
Oh, other hobbies include running, reading and spending time with my family.

Hey, my name is Kevin and I'm here to learn and improve my photo skills. I bought the Canon T1i a few months ago and I love it but I dont always get the quality of pic that I know the camera is capable of. I love to shoot and have tons of pictures. You will see me around a lot trying to learn and improve, I am open to criticism and will not be an idiot about it.

G'day All. My name is Trevlyn, I'm 38, I like long walks on the beach, sunsets and a good latte. I've just gotten back into photography after an extended hiatus, my current setup is a nice 500D with the (spoken with a whisper) twin lens kit.

Working in the aviation industry, I like to take photos of aircraft (gee, big surprise), and being an avid motorcycle rider (I own a Yamaha R1) means I also like to take photos of bikes, although riding and shooting photos at the same time has so far eluded me, but I'm working on it.

I'm in the Army, and have been to Afghanistan on a number of occasions, and before you ask, no, I won't get into a debate over it. I've got some very good (well, I think they are) photos from there, especially sunsets with aircraft in them (can you see a trend here).

Like all beginners, I'm experimenting with just what my camera is capable of. I am open to suggestion, criticism, or even outright derision. Now, if I can just remember where I put my body armour and helmet....

Hello, I am fairly new to posting but have been lurking reading threads periodically for a couple of years.

My name is Jenn (obviously) and I am a training specialist by day and a million other things by night. I live in the Pittsburgh area and love all things Pittsburgh, even though I did not grow up here. My interest in more serious photography surfaced when my Canon point and shoot would no longer do everything I wanted to do. I moved to an XSI and then a year later to a 5D II.
My favorite types of photography are probably weather, landscape/nature, and architecture. I am planning a trip to some of the great National Parks in Colorado, Utah, and Arizona this summer and really looking forward to shooting some beautiful landscapes. I am a little nervous that I won’t get the results I am hoping for, though.

I appreciate the expertise and willingness to answer questions I see in these forums.

maybe, instead of starting my own selfish, egocentric thread, I should have just posted here... but the damage is done ..

here is the waste of bandwidth : http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=851575

Either way - grad student. hauling from the great ATX, just got myself a 350D with a whole bunch of extras

Do not have a ton of experience, but concerts, modeling (women and groups), candids / cityscapes and "art" (abstract) seem to be my sort of a dance floor.

Looking to better myself in all of those ..

cheers ... you shall hear of me more as I get my new gear, and as I pick up learning

Cheers

Bought my first DSLR in July 2008 (after about 6 years with a Canon S30) and have learned a ton about the technical side of things since then but still have a LONG way to go on actually implementing that knowledge into good pics!

How's it going? My name is Drew. I'm from good ol' Austin, Texas. Got a my first DSLR about a year ago. I've moved from that Rebel XT, to a pair of 20Ds, and now to single 20D and a 30D. I'm just starting to get into sports photography, mainly Triatholons and Marathons (full and 1/2). I just got bored watching the lil woman racing, and decided instead of starting to race, I'd take pictures. I've always got my eye out for great bargin glass, the perfect working lens with a few specks of orginal paint left. It's nice to see beginners to pro's all in one place.

Howdy My name is Joe I am an addict- no scratch that wrong forum, but I am a flashaholic besides being a photographer. I am a stay at home grandfather that has to use a wheeled walker to get around due to spinal stenosis and degenerative disc disease. Ex USAF instructor. Former professional baby photographer in Cincinnatti Oh. Currently in the Volunteer state located centrally to Dale Hollow, Watts Bar, Center Hill lakes. I am a bass fisherman and collector of peanut pocketknives mostly Case. I have had two jobs that required photographic skills obviously the babys, but also as a jet engine quality control manager for a jet engine overhaul facility where all parts being sent out for repair had to have photos made prior to shipping. I got into digitals with a Fuji finepix that was given to one of my daughters when I upgraded to a slightly better Fuji. While visiting family in east Texas I saw a new Fuji S1000 fd and bought it on the spot, Here is where I mention I was in Dallas to have a triple bypass performed at the VA hospital. I celebrated getting out of the Hospital by hitting the Frys electronic store and acquiring a Canon T1i and 55-250IS to go with the kit lens and that started my downward spiral into digital obsession.

Yo everybody!

I'm Taylor. I got into photography when I was aroun 14/15 by picking it as an extra curruicular thing at school. Went to a photography specific school to learn the basics using an old Pentax ME Super. I can process my own B&W film and prints.

I've getting frustrated by the costs of getting B&W processed elsewhere (once I grew up and no longer had access to dark rooms) I lost a bit of interest and the camera gathered dust.

I went on a holiday to Japan earlier this year, and after getting frustrated with my little point and shoot (POS for a better acronym) I started to get the bug again.

Two weeks later I went out and picked up my first DSLR and I've got my photography eye back.

I'm now 20 years old and I reside in little Adelaide, Australia. I look forward to sharing my photos and thoughts with you guys! This seems a very active forum, so should be good for getting some critique.

Hey everyone. My name is liz, I'm 21. I'm getting married soon - May 13th. I'm really into "photography," as with half of the world these days. I like to take raw things and bring them to light though.. A lot of my images aren't usually things people ask for pictures of. I'm not in school or anything, and I just recently moved to Tampa, FL and am in desperate need of a semi entry level photographer that's looking for wedding experience. Either way, I'm not here just for that.. But I thought this would be a great place to come. I'm soon about to get a new camera.. Thinking about a DSLR maybe. I'm not sure what brand I'll go with yet though. Early thanks for the welcomes.

Hello everyone. My name is Rodger. I'm from a small town called Vidor, Texas. I'm 44 years old, married to a wonderful woman named Grace and we have 3 kids, two dogs, a minpin and a great dane, 7 chickens and 3 ducks and a few fish. lol I've been working trying to learn photography off n on for about a year and a half. I just joined this forum about a month or so ago and man have I enjoyed it. I've realized how much I don't know, but have the rest of my life to learn.
I do some portrature, and want to do some macro. I've tried my hand at smoke and was fairly sucessful but don't like the smoke so not interested in that now. I will eventually try some landscape and wildlife as I purchase the equipment to do so.
I am presently using an XSi andI have some soft boxes and a 480ex flash, backdrops ans such for a small home studio. Still have much to learn though, and thanks to some of you folks I am learning.:)

Hey All, This looks like a great forum - thanks for having me! My name is pronounced Cort but is the Dutch version, spelled with a Koe... (With only a few people around with my name, I don't want to be too obvious to the search engines).

My Dad (90 years old next February) was a wartime photographer and had a photo studio for many years before starting on his career as a TV lighting director. As you can imagine, I was turned off to photography at an early age - well, I was turned off to being photographed anyway. I just got back from his house where we had a long and heated discussion about the benefits of importing photos through Picasa and why it won't work with his Rolleiflex (just joking).

I've always had friends who were immersed (literally) in surf photography but most of my friends, and I, never really learned the basics. One close friend started classes at BetterPhoto and piqued my interest in giving this craft another try. This forum popped up while looking for information on lenses and I immediately met Tekkor and then NitroTang (who has tentatively agreed to help fund my Cannon 10-22 purchase).

Looking forward to meeting the group and hoping that someday I'll have something to contribute!

Hello to everyone, just found the website. I live in Asheville, NC and primarily shoot my own architectural work but I'm looking to do a better job at it and increase my general photog skills.

Current camera is a Canon 7D, walking around lens is a canon 28-135 and then typically back that up with my canon 10-22 & 80-200 2.8L IS. Next lens I'll probably move on is a Sigma 150-500.

Anyway, look forward to seeing everyone in the forums.

edit: Oh yeah, been shooting since undergrad at Clemson in '97 with an old Canon AE-1, moved up to a Rebel 300D and then to the 7D.

Hi everyone. I finally decided to get serious about photography and after much too much research, I've settled on a Canon Rebel as my first DSLR. Wide lens selection and a good used market is what persuaded me to go with Canon. That and the fact that Nikon's D5000 and D3000 seem to have pretty lousy ergonomics.

I'm pretty much interested in all aspects of photography. Up until now I've done a bit of landscape, street and macro photography with assorted compact cameras. I'm hoping my new gear will give me a few new tricks (finally I have DoF control! :D).

So I did a little searching around and word of mouth says that this is a good forum to chat with other Canon users, trade gear or whatever. Hopefully there are not the type of fanatical arguments about pointless things that plague other internet forums here. Or if there are, perhaps they can stay directed where it belongs at... er Nikon? ;)

Hi Everyone - I found this forum by accident when searching for information on the 2010 Scott Kelby World Wide Photo Walk. Someone had asked a question in the forums and the search engine found it and brought me here.

As I've been a Canon user since AE1 film days I just had to join.

I've also found an active group of local members from this forum in my county - so that's me off to a great start.

All the best and I look forward to putting in as much as get out of the forums.

I now have my first actual DSLR (Canon 450D or XSi) and am looking to truly grow and develop as a photographer. I'm still working on steadying my hand and finding better angles for better photographs. Nature photography and action shots (action sports and concerts) are my favorite styles of photography.

I'm Bobby A. I'm 28 and live in Oklahoma now.

I got into photography about a year ago, when I took a trip to Oregon, and for the first time in my life saw a forest. I couldn't believe how beautiful the place was, so I ran to the local camera store and bought myself a rebel xsi in an attempt to capture it.

About 2 weeks ago my wife got me a 50D, I couldn't be more thankful though I'm still wondering what I did to deserve it...

Since getting my xsi I had gotten into using aperture and just got aperture 3 last night.

Hi Everyone,

Names David and I recently purchased myself a 550D with the 18-55 kit lens. I have always wanted to be more involved with photography and after a recent trip to the Yarra Valley (Victoria, Australia) that had my mates downing wine and me taking photos I decided it was time to get something more involving than my Panasonic point and shoot.

I had always just assumed that I would purchase a Nikon, but as with any purchase I make I ensure I thoroughly research anything I buy. After reading posts on various forums that mentioned to go with the format that people you know use, I decided to go with Canon as my uncle shoots with canon and has some very nice lenses that I would be saving a very long time for.

As for what I want to shoot, I worked in hospitality for many years and have a love of food and many connections in the industry so I hope to get into some restaurants and do some food photography (pretty sure I’ll need more gear for this but that will come). I currently work in the design field so have access to large projects (civil, structural) so I want to get into some urban environment shots as well.

Look forward to learning what I can from the forums and giving input when I can.

Cheers,
David

Hello everyone. Figured I would make my first post here.
My name is Lyle, I'm 24 and from Tallahassee Florida. I've been a photographer for around 10 years. And been a serious photographer for about 3 years.

I have professional experience shooting weddings, band/concerts, and nightlife/club settings.
I currently work for a nightlife marketing company based in Tallahasse FL as a photographer.
We are located @ www.nightlifeunleashed.com & facebook.com/nightlifeunleashed
I personal love doing coastal and nature photography, especially of hard to reach animals in their native environments.

I shoot with a Canon 40d and a Minolta XG-M.
I prefer film, but the cost is such a downside that I rarely use film in comparison to digital.

So I hope to see yall around, the forums look great.

Aloha from KY.
I am a sahm of 3 kids (5, 3 and 5 months). My husband bought me a Canon 500D for Mother's Day. People say I have an eye for great pics, but I think I just get lucky. I'm here to really dig in and take in as much knowledge as you all have to offer. I need all the help I can get. :)

Hmm... I never saw this thread before... well...

Hi folks... TheMadMan here but feel free to call me Will as that is my real name. I am currently living in the college town of Davis, California.

I have a wife and two cats. My hobbies involve video games (I have two PS2, a Wii, a Xbox360, a N64, Super Nintendo, Nintendo, Gameboy Color... I think that wraps it up), computers (I have several computers as I am a computer gear nut, I studied electrical engineering because I love computers so much), paintball (I played for my college team in when I was in college, now a days I play sparingly for fun), airsoft (just for fun, never did any major scenarios or anything), anime, and other things I am sure I am missing that I will fill in later.

I came to this forum because it is a well of information, I hope to contribute some back by informing all the newer folks.

Anyways, glad to see more folks joining, see you folks around!

I've been a member here for awhile now, but have not introduced myself yet :)
My real name's Kostya, I am from Ukraine, a country in Eastern Europe. I am a full-time preacher and minister with the Church of Christ.
I like computers (in fact, I do some IT outsourcing to support myself), bicycles (I've got an Italian cross/hybrid Bottecchia AV800 bike, which BTW is my main transportation locally). I am an old fan of Pink Floyd, but also enjoy main-stream jazz, and classical music.
And, of course, I like photography, though I guess I am still a lousy artist :) My passion is old manual focus lenses, especially those made by Fuji Photo Co.

My wife is a CPA. Our son is almost 6 y.o.

tell something about what you are in real life, photography history, what interests you, whatever you want to say about yourself!

Hi :D

I've been meaning to spend some time here, and I'm not really sure why I haven't done it sooner... but... I'm here now, so... hi :)

What I am in real life: I am a 24 year old married female who's child has 4 legs and a tail. I've been involved in music my entire life and have recently been able to peruse my long-standing interest in photography

Photography history: I've always been interested in photography, but never got a chance to do anything about it until recently. I bought at T2i in April and haven't put it down since.

What interests me: Music, hiking, photography... Photographically speaking, I'm interested in a wide variety of things, but my main interest is in live music photography.

That's it. Nice to meet you all. :D

Hiya, all.

I'm Michael (Erus is my O/L nick for the last ten years or so...)

I live just outside Las Vegas, in "The world's biggest bowl of dust-ville" (Pahrump) about 2 miles from the Chicken Ranch, a world famous (if you ask them) brothel.

I shot film with a Minolta SLR for a few years when I lived in the Midwest. I never was really any good, and I kinda gave it up for a while... got my T1i about a year ago, and never looked back. Most of the menfolk in my family are pretty damn good photographers, so I think it's in the genes to at least want to TRY.

I am in the process of founding/forming a camera club in my small town, with a goal of doing a local Help-Photo ( http://www.help-portrait.com/ ) shoot as our first order of "business".

I am 80% wheelchair bound, my wife is 100% on wheels, so this sometimes presents a small challenge to shooting angles and perspective choice, but nothing that can not be overcome.

She likes Macro shooting, and now that she's played with my camera, her P&S sits gathering dust. I suspect I'll have to buy her a DSLR (Canon of course so we can share lenses...) for the next major gift giving commercial opportunity.

I like all types of photography. Mostly I shoot portraits & landscapes so far... but willing to shoot anything. I am learning as fast as I can, I never really had a good grip on the technical when I was shooting film, but much better informed these days, and am getting better [pretty quickly, I think.

Guess that's about it.. I noticed a TON of musicians, so I'll add myself to the pile.. I am a guitar player, have been so mostly for my own entertainment for many many years...

I am a private citizen, and I carry a sidearm everywhere I go..

We have two teenagers, two dogs, two cats, one weasel, (ferret) and several miscellaneous fish.

Looking forward to the forum, thanks to all who give so much of themselves and their art and skill here.

We (wife & I) visit Longwwwd Gardens faily often, it's a great place to take pictures.

My first camera was a 110mm back in elementary school. Lost interest in photography until I got my first digital camera for christmas 2003, an Olympus Stylus 400. Was a good starter camera until it broke after dropping it too may times. Bought a Canon Powershot A620 in Jan 2006. Got to break it in at my sister-in-law's wedding in Jamaica.

My cousin is getting married next month and I've been named the official photographer. I'm finally upgrading to a DSLR. Just ordered a Rebel T2i with the kit and 55-250mm lens.

I just bought the 5DM2 and found this site to try and adjust to the culture shock of going from Nikon to Canon.

I've spent the last to days reading the helpful post and gawking at all the outstanding photos. From what I can tell so far this is going to be a helpful site.

Hi- My name's JC Amberlyn and I'm a photojournalist for a newspaper in northwest Arizona. I'm an artist, photographer and book author and I've always loved the Great Outdoors. I take a lot of people pictures for my newspaper job, which is fun, but my first love is wildlife photography. (I also find that wildlife photography is good practice for sports photography- both require you to be quick and anticipate the shot!)
You can see some of my photos at my website: http://www.jcamberlyn.com/photo.html

Hey all, I've been on the forum for the past few years to read and learn. Started with point and shoot and have progressed to 40D. Mostly shoot my kids playing soccer with a 35-350 that I picked up off this site about a year ago as well as some nature. I enjoy what I read here and the back and forth between members. The amount of knowledge on this site is scary and I can generally find an answer to anything I need to know. In real life I'm a Podiatrist (hence the screen name) and enjoy cooking as well as photography.

Hello, my name is Brian. I've been a big photography fan for a long time, when I was young I shot with my fathers Nikon SLR, but the films got really expensive so I've been just using the point and clicks (budget reasons). I've been saving up for a while and just quietly lurking and reading forums like DPreview and POTN and finally decided to take the plunge earlier this year into the wonderful/expensive world of DSLR.

I mainly like to shoot out door sport/auto racing events, with occasional indoor shoots with my dogs.

Hi Guys,

I've been lurking for a while now and decided it's time to make an Introduction

I'm Nate, 25 and from Sunny QLD, Australia, quite often between the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. My wife and I have always had a pretty keen interest in Photography but it was only in June that we took the plunge and got ourselves a DSLR, the trusty 550D/T2I/KissX4.

The camera got it's first decent run during a trip to Japan later in June and managed to come back sporting a Battery Grip, set of hood's for the two kit lenses and the nifty fifty and a 430EXII. Later on in July we decided to grab a 450D as a 2nd body as we both want to start getting into some courses together really soon!

We are both keen travelers and are really looking forward to getting some decent shot's on future trips although now there are at least a couple of spots we've been that we'd like to get back to just to spend time getting some brilliant Photos (Bagan, Myanmar and the North East of Laos pop to mind)

Hopefully as we get some decent pics I'll be able to get some up for C+C soon and maybe able to soon add some advice to some threads, that is after I learn a lot more myself.

Cheer's
Nate

Hi everyone,

I'm James, 23 year old from Melbourne, AUS. I'm an university student (still? oh fun) with a BSc (Molecular Biology - Hon), waiting to start my PhD next year in some field of Cancer Biology. In the mean time, I am a Ballroom dancing instructor.

Always loved taking photos of stuff since I was a kid, and even more now with my dSLR! Got my first dSLR (Canon 30D) about a year ago from ebay (was a bargin and came with a cheap lens). Recently ordered my first L lens (24-105) from the internet, which should be delivered within the next couple of days (oh excitment)! I like to take photos of everything, but mostly at ballroom dancing events and my pet Rottweiler.

Other hobbies include (but not limited to) Ballroom dancing, travelling, reading, and basically anything outdoors!

Cheers!

Hi there,

I'm Isabelle from somewhere around Paris, France, I'm 32 and work in IT.

I got my first DSLR, a 300D, for Christmas 2004. After four years of trying to get something out of it, I gave up, and stopped taking pictures for a whole year. I thought a lot about what, exactly, photography meant to me, and what kind of photos I would enjoy taking. After a few months pondering, I finally got my DSLR out of its bag, and focusing on the end result I could finally improve my skills. I started to feel limited by my camera, so I bought a new one this year - a 50D.

My main photography subject has always been cosplay and costuming. I started photography because I wanted to document costumes I saw at conventions, and even if I don't have the time to make costumes anymore it is still a big part of my social life. I enjoy bringing a character to life, and several of my other hobbies converge on this - I enjoy acting, writing and directing short movies, as well as roleplaying games. So even if I have of course dabbled in other areas of photography (landscape, architecture, candid portraits, macro), I always come back to costumes, because that's where I started, and what I have the most ideas for.

Hello Everyone...
My name is Ron and I currently live in Hyderabad - a city in the southern part of India. As a child, I saw my cousin brother clicking through his Nikon FM10 and a Minolta, but never really understood why was he crazy about it.
Then finally, I got hold of an entry level P&S Kodak KB-10 Film camera for Rs.800.00 which is $16.00 as per current forex rate. Clicked some random landscapes and fell in love with it. I bought my first SLR in 2004, a Nikon N75 along with Quanatary 28-90mm and then Nikkor 70-300mm. Did a bit of shooting landscapes, street and stopped due to consistent mistakes with lights and mounting processing cost.
Buying a dSLR wasnt easy as I always eyed Nikon D-90 so that I could very well utilize my AF lenses. Somehow I always stuck to Nikon... Then one fine day, last month, a dear photographer friend handed over his Canon 40D alongwith Sigma 18-200mm lens. And I found out about this forum just an hour ago while googling for some tips for shooting in clubs.

I love the feel of my Canon but unfortunately am still making mistakes. I love shooting in clubs but all am gettin is blurred images. I badly need lots of grooming and guidance here.

I am a music fanatic especially Trance and Progressive. My frequent visits to see the best DJs in the world leaves me with no images to cherish cos I still suck despite having a Canon Beauty...

Looking forward to a very fruitful stay here...

I just thought I'd say hi.

My name is Noel, I'm a newcomer to DSLR photography as I was bought a EOS500D for Christmas last year. I've had 35mm SLR cameras before but this is my first digital, and I love it. I came across the forum whilst looking for Tamron 90mm macro lense images and I thought I'd join in.

Anyway, hello.

Hey there everyone! I've been lurking around the forums for some time and I figured I'd finally introduce myself now :)

My name is Daniel, and I'm currently a student at UC Merced majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology. I'm from the SF Bay Area, and the Bay is where I usually find inspiration for my photos.

I've been taking pictures for about a year now. I am also a computer enthusiast, and I was introduced to photography on my home computer forum, overclock.net. I saved up for my first camera, a Pentax Optio S12 Point&Shoot. From there, I saved up for a Canon Rebel XTi, upgraded my lenses to my current set, and recently became happy enough with my photography to move up to a Canon 50D. You can usually find me with my 28-135mm taking candid city life photos, but recently I've had a budding interest in portraits (mind you, still new at it, and still very much in need of practice).

While biomedicine is definitely my career field of choice, at the end of the day there's little I like to do more than to take my camera out and take some snapshots to unwind and release.

I want to give a long overdue thanks to everyone who's posts have helped me learn more about photography in my lurking days, and hope that I can become a regular member here eventually. Who knows, maybe one day I'll end up changing home forums from computer enthusiasm to photography :)

Hi, my name is Deney. Ran into this forum while browsing Mac Rumors forum (hopefully we're allowed to do that). I've had my Canon T1i for a little over 2 years now and still enjoy the learning process. I'm not really sure what path I want to take my photography but as long as I'm having fun with it, why not try everything.

Im really not good with words but I find it easier to express my vision/words/thoughts/feelings through photography.

I'm hoping to get some feedback on my future posts so I'm able to learn more.

Hi,
I am blufox, from India.
Used old school Yashica film SLR when I was a kid, also tried developing prints for B&W film in those days. After that school and life caught up. Finally was able to afford a DSLR last year and got a 1000D.
Over the year I have acquired 18-55 mm IS, 50mm 1.8f II, 70-200 f4L IS ,Kata DR 467 and a Velbon Sherpa 750R.
Came to know about POTN while searching for 70-200 f4L IS reviews and sample pics :).
I looking forward to learn from fellow POTN members across the world.

Happy shooting...

Hi, My name is Roger Smith and I live in north Alabama. I am a retired software and design engineer. My major hobby is woodworking. A year ago I purchased a Canon 450D to replace another brand point-n-shoot that I had been using to protograph my art work and sport pictures of my grandson playing baseball.

A month ago I upgraded the 450D for a Canon 7D and purchased a 100/400L IS lense to go with the two lens that came in the 450D kit. During that year with the 450, I made over 4000 pictures of wildlife, nature and baseball.

I am excited and looking forward to the next few weeks. I will be taking a 10 day tour of Israel and look forward to making pictures of the trip.

Hey everyone!

Just thought i should introduce myself :) My name is Aden and im 23 living in Scunthorpe (Uk) currently. I have been into photography since the age of 10, when i used to sneak my mothers camera out and take random photos. I have always been inside the media industry because my mother owns a production company and from the age of 15-16 i was working on weekends. I studied photography at college and passed that with flying colours but instead of going to university i went to work my mother asap. At first i was assistant cameraman working on alot of different cameras starting on DVcams towards the end it was XDcams (355) then i was promoted to Editor working on both macs and pc matrox/blackmagic suites. I have recently left the company due to problems and because of money issues and trouble finding a job i have decided to set myself up self employed.

I was rather lucky and unlucky at the same time, i had a bit of money saved to propose to the girlfriend. Sadly she left me but this left me with all the money i had saved. I have put all this money into starting my company and its enabled me to build my own studios and also bought Canon 1ds MK III with a nice collection of lenses. The include the 17-40 F4L, 70-200mm 2.8 IS L, 50mm 1.4, 24-70mm F2.8L

I have shot with a wide range of cameras starting with my first ever the Canon AE-1, after learning film and developing i went straight into digital and bought the Nikon D100. While working i was shooting on D50, D80, D300, Canon 450D.

I really dont know why i messed about with Nikon for all those years, since fully upgrading to Canon i must say i prefer everything alot more. I just love the feel of the 1ds !

Im a bit of a forum whore and will be checking the forums regullary so hopfully some of you might be unlucky to have me posting with my rubbish advice! haha.

Right i better get back to painting studios :(
Cheers for reading and hope i havent bored you!

For those interested here is two shots i took recently. They wasnt paid work, a free shoot i offered for a friend, it was very windy day so im going to get her inside the studios next week.

Hi Gang

My name is Paul, and I am based in South Wales in the UK. I have spent too long lurking here!

I got into photography with a Russian Zorki 4 rangefinder when I was a kid. My dad (bless him) soon indulged me in a succession of Canons, first an AE-1, then an A-1. The first one I bought myself was a T90 when I left university. That kept be in business until a couple of years ago, when I sold some records and treated myself to a 450D, closely followed by upgrades to a 500D, then a 550D. Along the way I also picked up 350D infra red conversion via eBay.

My interests are mainly in landscape, but I want to get properly into macro. I have had a BPM bellows since 1977, but have never really used it until recently!

Thank you all for your contributions to the forum - it has always been a "holy book" to me!

Hope to get to know you all better soon....

Paul

Not introducing myself, but welcoming a friend Debbie - who goes under the name hotrod28.
When she starts to post you'll know why.
Deb hasn't posted YET - but I introduced her to the site and she just informed me that she has joined up.

Hello everyone,
I've been reading on the site and have gained some much appreciated knowledge about shooting and camera functions. I decided to join up and help the cause of a neg cash flow towards gear.
My name is Earl and have been taking pictures since the early eighties with 35mm and graduated into digital back in 2005 with a 20D. Only in the last year or so I've slowly been reading and getting away from shooting in the Auto / .jpg mode and into Creative Zone with (Av) and raw. I'm still learning and pics are finally starting to show improvment.
I'm currently living in the gray sky state of CNY and try to get out and take pics as much as possible. My goal is to be as proficient as most on the forum as I view the photos in awe!
Will post some pics when I feel I'm up to speed with everyone.....
Glad to be here,
Earl

Hey All,

I've been lurking here for a bit and finally registered. I've been digesting a lot of information from you all. I'm 51 years old and living on the CA Central Coast. I grew up with photography and was involved with a local camera club through my high school years. Then I put it all away and only decided to take it up again a few months ago. I have "Pro's" in the family, but since it is their business, I hesitate to annoy them for beginner help or advice. So you guys are now my source. They DID talk me into Canon equipment when I mentioned that I wanted to get back into it. They all shoot 1D's with "L" lenses in the field and mega-expensive large-format equipment in their studio. A bit out of my price range. I bought a t2i and have collected a few less expensive lenses, hoping to rediscover this whole thing.

I am familiar with the search function and will try not to annoy with the questions that have all been asked a thousand times.

Anyway, glad to be a member here,

Tom

Hey people,

my name's Bastien. I've been into photography since late 2007, starting with a no-name PnS, moving up to a Canon Powershot A720IS and since late 2008 I've been using a Canon EOS 450D. My main shooting subject is modified cars as I've been a car nut all my life and I live and breathe car culture. But I'm trying to branch out into different subjects as well, I hope I can find some inspiration to grow in that task on here. I like using old manual lenses on my 450d using an adapter, mostly M42 lenses. Reason for that being that they're lots cheaper to come by, yet still able to blow many modern lenses out of the water and I really, really like the solid feel of them compared to most plastic-lenses today.

Hoping for a good time on here,

Bastien

Hi! Just wanted to start my membership here by introducing myself. I'm Bob and I stumbled on this sight while doing an internet search for cleaning fingerprints of a lens (4 kids under 7 doesn't help / maybe a clear lens cover would ).
Liked what I saw here and thought I'd join the gang. I'm somewhat of a newbie when it comes to DSLR cameras. My family has only had point-&-shoot cameras until now.
This last weekend (after about a month of research) I threw caution to the wind and purchased a Canon 60D / 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 lens combo, case and a tripod. Absolutly love it.

FINALLY! I have been searching for the intro section for days, LOL. I'm Shane, 35, married with children and live in Oklahoma. My first digital camera was a Minolta Dimage S304. I just bought a Canon 40D a few weeks ago and have been lurking around here since. I mostly shoot my daughters volleyball and general family photos. Great site and I'm looking forward to getting involved in it.

Hi, My name is Simon and I was a Pentaxian until this summer, when after much thought, I finally decided I wanted to switch brands and after doing the research I should have completed before buying Pentax, I finally decided upon Canon and I have to say I've been really impressed with my 5D MKII. I've only been using a DSLR for 3 years and really enjoy landscapes and nature, shooting mostly wide angle or macro. I'm hoping to learn lots from more experienced forum members and also meet Canon users in my own locality, which is the UK, Devon, Plymouth.

I didn't introduce myself when I started here a few weeks ago; better late than never!

I am Rikki; live in Bristol. Always liked photography and got a digital SLR Canon 1000D, looking to learn how to get the best out of my camera and hope to join any events in the area.

Cheers

Greetings!

When you say you are from Bristol, that's not so clear (although I expect you are in the UK, but then I don't live there) -- how about putting something in your Location!

Heya all

I'm Dee and I'm based in Singapore.

I've been using my Rebel 350D for quite sometime now and decided to upgrade my gear to 60D and in a few years time I will upgrade to a 5D(I'm waiting for MarkIII). I've been shooting just about anything and just recently my interest for fashion/glamour photography spiked up, and this is where I want to be in the near future.

I'm starting my journey from scratch and I hope you all would help me get there.

Cheers
Dee

Hi everyone, great forum you have here. It's been a valuable resource for me the past couple months so I decided to join. Photography has been a hobby of mine for nearly 10 years, and I just got my first SLR a few weeks ago, a T2i. I love it so far. I'm from Connecticut, USA, and the name's Steve (in case you couldn't figure that one out already); just wanted to stop in and introduce myself. Looking forward to showing you some pictures!
