Name is Mike, the Bullet part is my boat hehehe! I'm a maritimer from Halifax Nova Scotia who got lost and found himself in Montreal , Quebec. I work at Pratt & Whitney Canada to support my sickness, along with my family of 3 boys and a wife who puts up with a husband who refuses to grow up. Urban, lanscapes and nature are my 3 prefered poisons. If your located in the Montreal area, feel free to drop me a line, I'm always up for an outing!

Regards,
Mike ;)

Hello folks,

My name is Mike and I am 27 years old. I've been into photography for about 4 years now. I wanted to take better pictures of my kids and I decided to get my first DSLR. I bought the Canon XSI and I quickly realized that I LOVED photography! I am currently looking for a new setup, but the camera I want is still not available. So I am playing the waiting game.

Hi all;

My name is Dan, and I live just outside of San Diego, CA. I've had the shutterbug for over 40 years and am getting back in to it after an extended hiatus. The quality of the images from modern DSLRs just blows me away. I thought my olf Nikon F2 was good, but today's digitals ROCK !

I've shot various formats, from 126 to 35mm to 6x6, and a variety of video, DV, HDV, BetaCam, D1, H.264, etc. and like still photography best.

I'm grateful for this forum and the combined expertise of its members. I expect to learn a lot in the coming years, and hope to be able to make some small contribution, as well.

I used to frequent apug.org/rangefinderforum/etc but this place had a lot of good advice for where I'm headed so I'll be spending some time here.

I'm an architecture grad student at U of Michigan graduating this semester. I just sold off almost all of my large format system (arca 4x5) and am buying into Canon. In undergrad I taught myself on a Nikon F2 and later a Hasselblad 501CM, as I was always shooting on a tripod I decided that I should move up to large format for movements/etc: got a Sinar Norma, then tried a P and finally the arca but never got around to shooting as it was too much of a hassle so I moved in the other direction.

Little while ago I picked up a nex5 on a whim, then gave it to the wife and got a 5n with some legacy lenses. Recently read about the conorus NEX-EF adapter and decided to sell off my LF kit I wasn't using and pick up the 24mm TS-E II with the intention of using it on the 5n until a FF evil came out.

Well, I couldn't resist and so now I'm selling off everything else and going all in with Canon! My kit:

Camera:
5D mk ii kit with 24-105L (selling the 24-105)

I'm limiting myself to just 2 lenses, but nice ones:
24mm TS-E II and 1.4x mk iii extender
85mm 1.2L II (arrives wed!)

Figures this will give me movements for architecture, and 85 for people.

I'm also eager to learn flash("strobist") as it was something I never tried with film as I was an available light snob (but really just didn't want to learn on film)

ST-E2 (first picked this up just to assist AF with the 85)
430EX II
LP120 x2
LP605 stands + LP heads
Marumi vari-nd (1-9 stop reduction to allow me to keep the 85 open with off camera flash)

Throwing everything in a hazard 4 plan b evac photo recon (what a name!) sling pack.

Just wanted to introduce myself before I put the 24-105L up for sale!

Cheers,

Alexander

Hi, I'm Shane from Ireland, live about 30 mins from Dublin City Centre. I recently just got back into photography after a two year stint away, ie money issues :P but im back now, got myself a nice little kit for little money - a 500d with a few lenses, filters, flash and bag.

My first camera was a 300d about 6 years ago....from there on i went with a 400d and a 350d backup and had about 7 or 8 lenses. Used to go to car shows and take photos for different websites but got bored quickly taking pictures of cars and moved to shooting models and landscape.

I soon was recommended by a photographer in Dublin to a band who were looking for someone to shoot their gig. This was my first paying job. I had shot a few bands at this stage and was really starting to get into it. But after the gig and my love for cars at the time, i sold up my gear to finance getting a project back on the road....BIGGEST MISTAKE of my life!

So im back in it now, looking forward to reading everyones advice and tips as im extremely rusty once again. :D

Hey my name is Stef. I'm 17 years old and I'm from the Netherlands.
My hobbies are football, guitar, gfx and photography ofcourse :)
I just started to take shots. I guess for 1 month now or something like that.
I really enjoy making nature and wild life/bird shots. Got a canon 550D, it's my very first camera :D. Also recently bought a new sigma 70-300mm telelens to get closer to the birds I'm trying to capture.
I mainly got into photography cause of some other portfolio website where i saw alot of really great photo's wich made me wanna do it also.
And at school I get some lessons in photography wich is pretty cool :D

I joined this forum cause I wanted to learn more about photography, maybe I could some feedback on my work and I also like to watch other's work to get inspiration :)

Uhm yea, if you are wondering why my english isn't that perfect, as I already said, I'm 17 years old and from the Netherlands. Wich means I still got to follow the english class on school haha :D

That's about it!
Cya!

My name is Brian, I have been invloved in the wedding industry for over 25 years but not as a photographer. I received my first DLSR as a christmas gift and I'm totally hooked. Although I will never shoot weddings, I have had a lot of fun getting out and about shooting the landscapes. I'm glad I found this site and have been quite a lot of reading. Looking forward to spending a good deal of time on here.

I found my way to this site by way of doing a Google search on Cavan Images. I hope I do not get automagically 'kicked' from this site for my next statement. That being I am not currently shooting Canon equipment, but Pentax, may be considered by same to be accursed. I will take the risk, it looks like a lively group and I am sure I will learn a lot.

I started shooting a 35mm camera in my senior year of high school. For reasons I wont go into now, I was attending high school in Taiwan, Taipei American School. We had a photography instructor who also did work for a Chinese Magazine, and freelance work.

Later that year in 1972 I enlisted in the Army. Initially I was infantry with the 82nd Airborne, but I weasled my way into an almost unheard of position as a photographer at brigade level. I worked that job for a little over a year, getting our brigade a little more local press.

After the Army, I was in and out, mostly out of photography for the next twenty years, though I did purchase a Pentax K1000 camera around 1983, and used it sporadically. In 1999 I injured myself on the job, forcing me from my chosen occupation in landscaping. In the ensuing months of rehabilitation, my wife suggested I take out that old camera and try and enter a photo contest with Portland (Or) Public Parks. I took a first prize and my wife has regretted that suggestion ever since.

Since then I have acquired several more lenses and then finally, about a year ago I purchased a digital Pentax body that will fit those lenses.

I am Graham, 28 years old and live in the Blue Mountains West of Sydney, Australia... I registered on this site awhile ago, and have read many, many threads however this is the first one i have posted.

Alwayas been interested in Photography but only really started putting a bit more time into it, last week I joined a local photography group in order to meet some interesting and knowledgable people to help me on my journey with Photography.

I currently own a Canon 600D with a few lenses (Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro, Tamron 18-270 f/3.5 and a Canon EF-S 10-22mm) and am looking at upgrading to the 5D MKIII when it hits our shores.

I have read many positive reviews whilst the only negative reviews are coming from those who currently own a 5D MKII (saying that the upgrades arent substantial enough to justify the price and upgrade. Would love to hear other peoples thoughts on whether it is a good idea for me to buy one seeing as I will be upgrading from a 600D.

I am yet to find my niche in Photography but really love Macro, Animals and Landscapes, which I have been dabbling.

Well thats pretty much it, nice to meet you all

Graham

Hello, I'm Sarah and was sent here on a recommendation that this is a great and friendly environment to learn in! I am 22 years old, live in New Jersey and I work as a professional show dog handler. 6 years ago I got a Canon Rebel XT with the 18-55 kit lens and have had just that up until December. I bought a 50mm f/1.8 in December and last month I purchased a 70-200mm f/2.8 IS and today I got a 7D for my birthday. I have recently rekindled my interest in photography, I mostly shoot dogs (that sounds awful) as they are my primary interest and I get bored taking photos of anything else.

This is a new adventure for me and I really hope I can gain a lot of knowledge and learn to take beautiful pictures of my kids that I can be proud of! I am also excited to learn more about editing, as I know next to nothing. I currently have Photoshop Elements 7 and my editing is done entirely with the 2 sets of actions downloaded from the Pioneer Woman website. I am SO open to critique and suggestions and if there are any other South Jersey members who are free on weekdays/nights, please PM me if you are interested in mentoring a very willing student!

Wow...lots and lots of people here!

Hi Folks... moonwillow is a screen name from the early 90s that sort of just stuck.. my alter ego.
Ginger Grant is my real name... no one believes that one! I'm not living on an island with the skipper or gilligan ;)

I've been a traditional artist, craftor and jewelry maker, landscape photographer now expanding into the portrait/commercial aspect of photography. My kids are leaving the nest.. time for me to do so too! Looking at forums for ideas and advice, used equipment and photography clubs, etc... a little bit of everything.

Name is Jadah! I'm aspiring to become a professional photographer. My interest with photography started growing when I started working. Some of friends would bring their camera to the office and we would take pictures of ourselves. Then, when we go out of town, we always have memories to bring when we return home, which I know nothing in today's digital era can ever compare to.

Hello P.O.T.N.

I'm Jorge Ledesma, a small compact aficionado and lover of all things photography. If I had to choose a description I believe the masthead of my blog gives a description I like:

I write a personal blog (http://jorgeledesmablog.wordpress.com/) about the intersection of life & photography with a focus on various genres including street, documentary and abstract photography.

Well, I used to shoot m43(blasphemy here lol) went through a lot bodies and I generally like them(GF1) but I felt I was missing something from my files and so I sold all my m43 gear and all lenses and here I am in search for a Canon dslr and growing into this system.

I hope to contribute and also learn from everyone. I'm currently doing a Weekly Project 2012 (http://jorgeledesma.net/2012/02/12/week-6-2012/).

What else, I love compacts as well and went through an S90 some years ago but settled with a Ricoh GRD III and used it extensively here's my most seen image from Flickr of all time. Now I use the Lumix LX3 and in some days I'll compliment my compact with a Canon body and prime and go from there. I'm thinking to start either a 30D or a 40D, recommendations are welcomed and other suggestions.

Hey everyone! I'm Kyle from the Chicagoland area. I just got into DSLR cameras very recently. I started working for a small electronics company in January, we deal mostly on eBay and Amazon. As I was working, I got to get a little more knowledge of our inventory, which included a few Canon T3 cameras and accessories. It only took a matter of time until I bought one of the cameras for myself. So I've been just shooting around for a while, and I've really been enjoying the experience.

I've got much to learn, and I'm hoping being a part of this community will help me grow my skills.

My name is Jens and i am from Norway and new to this forum. I am currently a student and got my first DSLR camera a few months ago, a Canon 600D with a 18-55 kit lens and later bought a 70-300 lens. I'm am still a beginner so for the most i have taken random pictures, pictures of friends and happenings at the school, so i have a lot to learn. The highlight so far must be the pictures i took on the four week trip to Kenya and Tanzania. I'm looking forward to learn more from all you wise people and take part in this community!

Hey all, kinda been lurking around here for the best part of 2/3 months, have been posting every so often, but I now feel pretty comfortable with the community and how things go on here that I am ready to hopefully become quite the regular.

My name is Kyle (Bodster as an internet name just kinda stuck in my early teens), I live in Fife, Scotland. I am currently 19, 20 in June. I am studying Musical Performance and Production at college, but I am considering changing to study a HNC/HND in photography.

I bought a Canon 550D in late November 2011 and then bought the Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens in late December and have almost only used that since. I shoot mainly street photography, really love it and i am learning new things everytime I go out. I have also recently been asked by a few local bands to begin shooting at their gigs, to try and help get them some publicity and also a few pennies for me :)

Unfortunatly I don't actually know too many photographers pro or amateur around my area so it is mainly just me and my camera at the moment. If there is anyone on here that live near me I would love to meet up at some point as I do have a lot to learn and currently everything has been self taught :)

I set up a website for myself a few weeks back, mainly to encourage me to get out with my camera as often as I can. Here it is here - http://www.kyleboddyphotography.com/ (Its a work in progress, but i dont think it looks too bad :))

You guys can contact me on facebook if you ever want to, here is the link - https://www.facebook.com/bodster2k7 (I think thats how to link to your facebook page? haha)

Thanks for looking :)

Hello everybody. New here. Just thought I'd write a quick intro to get started on the right foot.

I have been an amateur photographer since approximately 2003 when I got my first Canon, a film rebel. I was a little late to the digital party when I received my first DSLR in 2006, the Rebel XT. I started off using photography as a way to document and extend my architectural investigations while in Architecture school at Virginia Tech. I then progressed into nature, landscape, and wildlife, my true passions in life. Now I find myself with a growing interest in portraiture as my two children (third on the way) are growing and I enjoy documenting their growth for many reasons.

I hope to learn from you guys and eventually, as I find myself able to do so, pass on knowledge back to the collective.

Thanks!

Hello ppl, I'm new here. I haven't really used too many photography forums as I live on a boat and normally I'm on the move. Right now, however, I'm based in India and will stay here until we sail off towards Malaysia next year. I'm originally from the UK and will return for a visit in the summer of 2012.

I'd call myself semi-pro photographer. I've been paid for a few magazine articles, I've sold work and I've won comps. However, like most, it's really just a very passionate hobby and if I make some money out of it, that's an added bonus! I'm an LRPS of the Royal Photographic Society and I curate one of the hashtag themes on G+.

My main thing is people. Street, travel, people in their environment. I shoot with a Canon 5Dii and a 50mm prime. I do own a 70-200L which gets dusted down occasionally, and I did own a beautiful 28-70L until I broke it on a trip to Assam. Boo!

I've joined this forum because it seems really active and I'd love to connect with people and chat. I'm a regular on GooglePlus and my portfolio and links can be found in my signature (is it there?).

Look forward to catching up somewhere on this website, and maybe even in person. Cheers!

Howdy all,
My name is Steve and i come from the northern suburbs of South Australia.
I have been into photography on and off for years as my dad always had a camera in his hand. I have been outa the game for a while and have re-virginised my brain when it comes to 'using' a camera rather than point and shoot.
i have had a play in 'bulb' mode and have tryed a little light painting which was good fun and i am lookin to expand on my night photography as i found it quite exciting,
I am here to try and short circuit the 100's of frames i would have to take to get manual baselines for day, night and lightning as i want to use those 3 in my custom settings on my Canon.
My Camera is a Canon 7d with a Canon EFS 18-200mm lens. I also have a Hoya polarising filter and i am in the process of getting a battery grip, corded remote and wireless remote. also want to get a 600EX speedlight to help me out a bit as i find the standard flash just dont cut the mustard! I also have a inca 4kg tripod which seems to work real well when i remember to tighten all the knobs! hehe
I will be cruising the site lookin for info, and asking some pretty dumb questions i would think so please bear with me as im in awe at what you guys nd girls are takin pics of and of the quality of them.

Hi everyone, my name is Tom. I bought my first DSLR 3 weeks ago and I am on here every moment I get to read and learn. This is my first post on my first photography forum. I live in South Africa.

My equipment is very limited at this stage, being the 60D, EFS 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM and the 580EX II with a spare battery!

My username is a combo of me and my wifes names, as we are supposed to share and learn together. Our first disagreement is what forced me to break the ice and place my first post. It is about the quality of the pictures I take. She recons it is grainy and lack focus.

I am not sure what I may post and what not, so I am playing it safe and will just give a link to a photo on Photobucket. Will you please have a look and tell me if there is something wrong with the quality. I suspect the camera settings will be visible under properties.

No, it is not Elize !

Thank you so much.

Deems like I am not going to get an answer here. Where should I take my question? RAW, Post Processing and Printing might have been a better place. Your image was taken on full Auto, & while it's not bad, it looks like it's a little underexposed which is one cause of noise. Take a look at this thread, & welcome to POTN!
Doing a little noise experiment, found something cool (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=798464)

Hi Guys!

My name is Sameer and I'm an amateur photographer out of the great state of Minnesota. I do primarily wildlife and landscape photography but dabble in people from time to time as well. I just don't have a lot of people to take pictures of!

In my personal life I'm a Manufacturing Design Engineer for a large medical device company in the twin cities area. Basically, I design the equipment that produces heart catheters. I'm 26 years young and am about to be married to the love of my life next year (she won't let me take pictures :()

In my future, I'd love to play second shooter for a few weddings here and there to get my experience up but I don't want to make this my job. I recently went through a downsizing of my gear to both upgrade as well as get rid of stuff I don't need. Currently I shoot with a 40D, 70-200 f/2.8L, and a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 SP. I've yet to find a situation where I need more so this is where I stay. My wallet thanks me for this situation.

Hope to get to know all of you guys over time!

Hi everybody,

I am from Norway, new here and thought to introduce myself.

I started to seriously involve myself in DSLR photography about 1 year ago, the reason for that was that I have used compact digital cameras already for years but was never really happy with the result, probably also because I didn't really know what I was doing. I had of course some start up problems followed by a period where I thought I know what I am doing because I had learned already quite many basic things however this was followed by a period where I thought the more I learn about this the more confusing it gets.
For me the interesting thing is to learn and try always something new and of course to see the results improving.

I am also not photographing everything just to photograph it, of course I am playing around with different things but since I am doing a lot of fly fishing, especially for atlantic salmon I am manly focusing on fishing related, nature, wild life etc type of photography plus some "makro" photography of artificial salmon flies etc I am tying myself. With this I have actually experimented quite much over the last months and have now a setup with non reflecting glass that works quite nice for me.

Since I have just started my equipment is still relatively basic, Canon EOS 600D with a 18-270 lens, a couple of tripods (small and large one) and some filters etc.
Right now I am planning to buy a wide angle or ultra wind angle zoom lens for general outdoor / fishing photography and I might post some questions about this soon.

Looking forward to read and participate here.

Regards,
Tom

Hello everyone,

My name is Nate, I live in Texas and figured since I have been lurking for awhile I would introduce myself.

My first SLR was a Minolta Maxxum (can't remember the model) hand me down that may dad had in Desert Storm. I have owned an OG Rebel, 30D and am now the proud owner of a 5D MKII (when Beach had the body for $1800).

I am mostly an amateur/hobbist.

As far as non-photography related, I am a Clinical Engineer / Calvary Trooper in the U.S. Army, and I am a gear head (as you will end up seeing from most of my pictures). Right now I am at the tail end of a deployment so I won't be post to may pictures until later this summer.

Anyways, look forward to learning from you all!

-Nate

Hi everyone,

My name is Ryan and I'm a sound designer in Los Angeles, California. I dove into photography after seeing it done on film sets here in Hollywood where I work and decided I could do it myself, too. I bought a T3i last year around my birthday and haven't looked back since. In fact, I bought the Super-Takumar 50mm f/1.4 even before I had the T3i body I was so excited.

Hope I can learn a few things here and get some good critiques from some of you.

This is also where I've gotten the best samples of lenses I've wanted to buy (just got the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 based off the thread here and I love it).

Some of you I feel like I know already, hope to meet you for real.

Thanks,
Ryan

Found this forum while looking at google images a couple days ago and now realize where the missing part of my life was. I have a T2i and a the 55-250 lens as well as the 10-22. One of these days I'll get some of my photos uploaded and get some feedback on how to get better as there are some pretty knowledgeable folks here.

Edit: In the online world I go by Franz Liszt whenever I can. I grew up playing the piano and he is a favorite composer of mine!
