I am trying to understand where my color temp should be set. Currently it is set at 5400 (factory setting). I am doing mainly landscape and outdoor portrait shooting. Is this a good setting or is a better setting for outdoors?

What camera are you using?

If you use the 10D then try AWB - it seems to work in most situations, or try the presets for individual colour temps. ie. cloudy, artificial light etc. if you find AWB doesn't quite hit the right CT first off.

You should only really need to set the colour temp. in Degrees Kelvin if you know what colour temp. your light source is - eg. with flash and the manufacturers recommendation or by using a colour temp. meter.

Hope this helps.

I've got a few good links here:

Me, I tend to use AWB, shoot raw and fiddle afterwards. :)
