Hello,

If one's computer has USB-2 will an S-30 use it for downloads at the usb2 speed ??

Yes. It should transfer at USB 2.0 speed.

It will operate fine but only at USB 1 speeds if I recall. My S30 manual just specifies USB and I'm pretty sure the camera was designed before USB 2 was introduced.

Sorry. I don't have a S30 but did a quick check on the web to see if the S30 supported USB 2.0. I guess only the SD30 supports it - not the S30.
