I'm surprised you've had no responses. I'm not sure why, but I don't like the composition so much, but the lighting is spot on - nice catchlights in the eyes, focus is good, and the background just fades into the well, background! Again, I'm not sure why it doesn't grab me, but I can't see anything technically wrong with it!

Nice pictures and lighting. But the background distracts. The models hair is as merged with it. Another BG colour would have been better IMHO.

Thanks for the responses. I agree on all accounts, but could not figure out what I didn't like. I will see what I can do for a better BG next time. The girl is an aspiring model and loves to work with the camera. I will post more of her later.

its not t he background. its okay, its the colors on her blouse that takes too much attention. it distracts from looking at her face and her eyes.

All you needed was a light to shine on the back of her head. This would have shown the outline of her hair.
But this is a very good photo.
Nice contrast is colors of the clothes and skin and hair color.
I like it.

Wasiq - if you want to see pictures of hot chicks - can I suggest www.fhm.com - even though some of the models here are very attractive, people post images to get photographic advice / criticism, and not to find out how hot they are - for that they would post to www.hotornot.com.

I've been asked to take some portrait shots of a friend and I'd like some feedback. She wants some close-ups of her face mostly, but in kind of a silouette mode. I found a couple of pics off Google that she said was what she wanted:

Now I just got a set of 500 Watt studio lights plus filter and reflector. How should I position them to get the desired effect and what camera settings would be the best? I have a Canon EOS 20d with a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8.
