I've been waiting for several months for the sun to be in the right position for this shot.
The sculpture is on top of Leith Hill, the highest point in the South East of England, and was carved from a fallen tree. I wanted to capture the sun as it came through the top most aperture on the sculpture, and during the summer the sun was far too high, and even early in the autumn you had to get so close to the sculpture. that you couldn't fit it all in. What with that and the English weather, I have been walking to the top of Leith Hill quite a lot of late, but a couple of weeks ago the sun and the weather did their thing at the same time and the following two images are the result.

The images were taken in RAW format on my EOS 20D, using a Canon EF 17-35mm f2.8 L lens. I didn't undertake any RAW processing, leaving all the settings at zero (including sharpening) and then converted the images to black and white by placing a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer (set to -100% saturation) over a Selective Color adjustment layer. The latter was used to make tonal adjustments and thereby create more contrast and silhouette.
I haven't posted around these parts for a while, so I hope you like them.
