I like your photo - for me I think I would prefer the background not quite so sharp. Please bear in mind this is my personal taste only, I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination.

Agree with Peter. Shot could also use a little more contrast, brightness and sharpening.
To blur you might want to create a second layer and select the background only. This will give you great and precise control over the effect. Oops, assume you have PS?

i agree with the fact that the background spoil a little the picture, but i do not want to blur it. ( i am against such manipulation of the picture).
The other way to control DOF is to have a good and quick autofocus and working at 2.0. ( G3 autofocus almost oblige to work in hyperfocal way (and max dof ) to take 'street snapshot' where the picture is taken when you press the button and not 2 seconds after ).
So i will improve by buying another camera, in some years.
however, thank you for the comments. A bout the contrast, i feel that all grey are here. Perhaps il will give less gamma this evening to give a bit more strength.

i think that you could use macro to get the blurred background, with no photo manilpulation.
what would be cool is to have one b&w and one color of this photo and to layer them with the stamps being in color and the rest in b&w, but of course, that requires photo manipulation. just a thought.

macro would not have work (the man was at 1,5m of the camera )
