Can't seem to change Photo Effect on A70.

I'm on page 108 of the A70 manual following the directions to change the Photo Effects. It says to 1.) Press Function
2.) Select (Effect Off) using the Up or Down button.

3.) Select the desired setting using the Right or Left button.

Well.....whenever I get to Step 2. when I press the Up or Down button, it will only go on Drive Mode and skip down to the last icon. It will NOT go to Effect Off icon! It doesn't display Effect Off button. Instead, it always says Drive Mode. I simply cannot figure out how to change the Photo Effect! :( Please someone enlighten me. Usually when you press the Up or Down button it goes to each icon in sequence. This will not allow it for some reason. What am I doing wrong?? Thanks!

I don't have an A70 but a S45, but in my camera the effects can only be changed in certain modes like P and Av. Maybe that's also your problem, so try putting it in the P-mode and then try to change the setting again.

I checked again in my camera and the Photo Effect setting is not available in Auto-mode, so I suppose it will be the same in your A70 (it's a Canon so it shouldn't be that different).

You're absolutely right!! I just checked. I also have a Canon Elan lle so I should know that! On the other hand, I freely admit I don't play around with the manual settings enough and get lazy and use AUTO a lot. I suppose i should venture out with my new A70 and see what else I can create without relying on AUTO all the time.
