Same birds and same feeders. Are you and Mr P more than good friends? You clearly share the same stately home and grounds. Other than that discovery, these are very, very fine shots and a nice commentary. I could only dream of being able to see a bird here, let alone take a shot of one with my current limp collection of short ar*ses. Why or why did I let my 100-400 IS L go so cheaply?

What a neat Nuthatch shot! Agile little fellow. Now this has nothing to do with the bird, but I love the mossy bark in that particular picture, and it does add somethind to it.

Dave mi son, there is but one huge difference in birdfeeding philosphy: Gary's feed is peanuts, mine is sunflower seed.
IMO.....if you possibly can, get an EF 200 f/2.8 prime +1.4xTC. A superior solution for much of bird shots and then some ! I think it would be an interesting challenge to look for birds in Birmingham, both the city and the suburbs.....who knows what you might find.
Gary, those are excellent shots, not just technically (that chickadee's head is smartly exposed), they are ALSO creative, spirited and full of life. Truly excellent !

Mr P lives several hundred kilometers to the west of Ottawa near the great city of Toronto. I am sad  to hear that you let go of your 100-400 IS L and depending on how cheaply you let it go I may be even sadder:cry:  that I was not at the receiving end.;) Thanks Dave!
liv2trip very nice shots Gary man I love that lens
Thanks Wayne and I love it too. Not the greatest reach but when you get close, it performs very nicely.
KaplanMultimedia Very nice shots. The sharpness on the first shot is stunning.
When the sun actually shines ( we just came out of the dullest month of the year) the 200mm F2.8L is very capable even with the canon 1.4X. Thanks for the comment!:)

Thanks Dan. I agree and find the environment surrounding the subject really has an impact on the overall shot. I have seen the red breated nuthatch hang upside down perfectly still as if gravity was just an inconvenience for others.

Thank you very much Peter. Ialways like to hear from you. Btw. I saw a tree shark today and I could swear he had a pair of wire cutters with him;)
CyberDyneSystems Great shots,. LOVE the Nuthatch!
Thanks CDS...those nuthatches always put a smile on my face. :)
Mitcon lol, love that last shot but there all great as always Gary.
That last shot happened while I was focusing hoping to get 2 nuthatches on the feeder at a time but they have little tolerance of one another and if this guy knew the Chickadee was on the other side he would have chased him off....doesen't chase off any woodpeckers though:lol: Thanks for looking!
cfcRebel Awesome! Awesome! Can't get any better pose than these.
They are great posers, no doubt. One of the things I like about these types of birds is the character they have. Thanks for the feedback Rebel.

No matter which way you look at it.....They're ALL great.
Love the Up/Down shot; not often will you see this pair tolerate this.
