Here's a few of my pics from the last get together on Thursday.

It was about the 4th time some of us have got together to shoot different bits and pieces. We can only thank this forum, and the mods for not closing our General Chat "take over the world" clog of the forum :p

As usual, I found myself wandering away, shooting landscape scenes, but also managed to catch some group shots too.

Anyway, these were just some of the fun shots I took, and hope Moppie likes at least a couple from the group of us...

Meanwhile,
Some of us were monkeying around.
Head-POTN Chimper (FlyingPete), was..Well.. acting a chimp..

Forum member joeseph (Duncan), was admiring himself

And there was even a drive-by-shooting (FlyingPete yet again)...

And apologies for the number of shots.. But they were all so fun, with a great group of members to hang around. Getting ready for meeting #5.

Love that license place. Now we know the true source of the X-men.

The bench photo is very nice. At first I thought: need to pull in a little more but the sacrifice in reducing the larger screen would be too great IMO.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like it was a fun outing.

Fantastic stuff Warren!

The one on the bench, as everyone else said, is really really good.

To be completely honest, I haven't seen a single photo from the Moppie session that I would call great - i'm not picking on Wazza here. I've seen some good shots, and some fun shots, but nothing amazing.

Posing is hard. I've read a couple of books on it, I have a couple more on my bedroom floor waiting to be read, and I consider myself a beginner. If anyone wants to see what I come up with drop me a PM and i'll send you a URL - I don't want my commercial site URL posted here.

The one thing we lacked was any direction, Neither Amanda or I have ever done anything like this before, and I knew the posing would not be anything special.
So with respect to that, I happen to think there have been some really good photos come out of it, in terms of focus, exposure and compisition that is.

The rest we will have to learn, and I don't think now (after the days shooting) that having 4 photographers shooting the same people is a good way for everyone to learn :)

Next we can all take turns shooting and poseing each other, but I think we need to get to know each other a little better first.

I refuse to allow other cameras around during the formal shots at a wedding, it ruins photos when people look the wrong way - and it always happens, even if it's just people meandering around behind me. I've also gotten a lot better at controlling groups of people during shoots, my last wedding I had around 20-25 people around for the formals, you need different subgroups at times, and to keep people out of the way. Confidence and appearing to know what you're doing are important ;)

One good way to learn is to look at the types of pictures you want, and pay attention to details. Key details are feet position, weight distribution across the feet, leg position, arm and hand position, the way the face is pointed and the eyes are looking, and backgrounds are also important. Another thing people miss is that the expression on the photographers face is often reflected in the subjects face, so if you want them to smile, smile yourself! :)

:-)
goes to bed, nods off. Wakes up at 1:30 with network outage planning going round & round head. Get's up & surfs for an hour, gets sleepy goes back to bed.
Goes to work - network outage planned for mid-day postponed to Thursday!

Tim, I know what you mean about our Moppie session, I haven't seen all the other guys' shots but mine definately live in the realm of the learner - I went along with intention to learn what I could about what works or not and think have certainly seen some of what can go wrong so it was a really good experience from my point of view, if Moppie & Amanda like some of the shots, so much the better. I was certainly enjoyable taking photos of people who wanted their photo taken.. :-)

One thing I would like to point out, Iv seen all of the useable photos that John took, and a several dozen that Duncan took, they have not posted the best of what they shot yet, don't know why.

Cool photos.
On shot #4, what PS filter did you use to get that blur effect?

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks

It was just the radial blur on about 6-8 on a 2nd layer, and then deleted what I wanted to show on subjects.
