What are the rules/laws regarding photos and what you can and can't take pictures of. If I snap a picture of someone can I post that, sell that without permission. What about objects, can I take photos of people's cars, houses, etc...without permission?

I've heard stories of police making people stop taking pictures of landmarks, important buildings because of the patriot act or some crap like this...true?

Always get a release when photographing a person. If it is private property, get a property release. There are all types of legal problems and loopholes - none of which we have time to go over here. the link below goes to a really good website explaining it all.

>>> Go to the Model Release section.

About the Landmarks - I would have to claim the 1st Amendment on that one. They can't tell you to stop taking photos (It's a guaranteed right). They can ask for your ID, and ask what you are doing - but that is about it. Most of the time, they will realize (by virtue of your cooperation) that you are harmless. HOWEVER - if they start getting pushy - ask to speak with their supervisor.
