I've notices lately that sometimes there is an image marker that shows how many times the image has been looked at but not the image. It looks like other people can see the image because there are c&C about them all.
Any ideas?
P.S. This is one of the threads where I can't see the photo:

PPS: And now I can see it ?????? Color me confused.

I have the same experience. Sometimes there is a red x and sometimes nothing.
Sometimes when nothing is there, but others are obviously able to see it, I can hit refresh a couple of times and it suddenly appears. I have a brand new, very fast Dell with cable internet.
Any ideas?

For me, refresh works if all I get is the red x. However for the link posted above I get a box with the file details and a red x. When this happens I'm never able to see the image no matter how many times I hit refresh.

I get nothing on the above link initially. When I hit refresh one time I get it no problem...strange.

Tried it quite a few more times including refreshing and still nothing shows up. I get this problem quite often since the site was upgraded a few months ago.

Usually when I get red x'es it is due to one of following reasons:
- OP have posted a wrong link (or a link to a host that do not support direkt linking)
- there is an issue with the site OP is using
- there is an issue with the internet route to the site OP is using

Also in some circumstances when somebody links to an attachment of a different post.
I just posted about it in your thread TIP: attaching images

Yes but that would count for a very small percentage. Not many knows about this way of linking and it really is only meant to allow the OP to write text above and below the photo just like when the photo is hosted elsewhere. That function is not meant for linking to other posters attachments.

Tommykjensen I agree with you, I am happy to have a new code to format my posts, thank you.
It is just that we are trying to find why sometimes a browser (and a really good one) fails to show the pictures in the forum when the attach code is used or when the attachment is called with a standard full link, and it happens in some computers and not in others running the same operating system and browser.

Instead of refreshing the page you can right-click the red X and choose "show picture".

Copy the URL into the browser window, It probably will tell you to log in to POTN (even though you think you are) log in and page back and voila the image appears.

I don't usually get the red X, but i get this "name:xxx.jpg Views:xx Size xxKB" instead of an image. Other people can obviosly see it becuse they are commenting on the photos.
What can I do?
I can't even view the pictures of my own posts!

That doesnt work for me. Usually if I come back to it later, then I can see it.

This describes my experience exactly.
1. Only with attached images.
2. Only with a small number of posters. I can see all attachments from most posters, but none from some posters.
3. I can't see my own attachments in my posts, but I can see them in manage attachments.

I believe,
There are too unique URLs which leave cookies for automatic login etc.

Sometimes if you are logged into one and the picture is linked to a URL on the other, you only see red-x. In most cases people log into www.photography...and can't see pictures at http://photography...(because they aren't recoginzed as being logged in)
So go to http://photography-on-the.net make sure you are logged in
