I tried out a Tamron 24-135 with a brand new 10D last night at a softball game. At the long end, it took a good 2-3 seconds to lock AF. Furthermore, when I reviewed the pictures later, 90% were out of focus.
I shot using a 420ex Speedlite for some shots. Still out of focus.
I tried the Action "creative mode," still out of focus.
Went to Tv mode and tested from 1/60 to 1/1000, still out of focus.
These focus issues happened the entire 24-135 range of the lense.
Now, I think I had the AF on AI Servo because the subjects were constantly moving. Last night, I attempted One Shot, AI Focus, and AI servo with my 50mm Canon and it seemd to work fine. Then I tried the same three modes with the 24-135 locked to 24, and the results were a little better.
I have the option of returning the 24-135 for the Canon 24-135IS. I'm thinking that I want to do this because of the AF issues. Can anybody offer suggestions or comments?
Thanks.
