Hi,

Thanks for all of the photos in my past post! I want Canon's EF 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM. Please post samples using this lense with the 10D.

Thanks so much!

Rob

I have some pictures. I just purchased 28-135mm IS USM and 75-300mm IS USM.

I am still experimenting with them. How can I post the pictures? I never did this before.

Pictures are much better and sharper with above lenses
then Tamron 28-300mm XR lens I had before.

I'm very pleased with mine. All the pictures in my Car Album were taken with the 10d and 28-135 IS.

The Album is at:

What is the "Depth of FIeld" like with this lense? Is it possible to take pics that have a soft/blurry background?

Thanks for helping a newbie!

All these shots were with the 28-135. In addition there was no postprocessing whatsoever. Shot RAW and converted with Breezebrowser. All EXIF info is available for every shot.

Rob,

Depth of Field can be limited in Photoshop, whereas it can not be created. For that reason, I don't worry about having a wide aperture setting (e.g. f1.4 - f2.8) to limit depth of field. I usually use at least f8 and then reduce DOF in PS to exactly what I want to make the subject stand out. Here are two pictures taken with the 28-135 IS at f8 and where I used Photoshop Gaussian Blur to reduce DOF to my taste.

Frank, those are some very nice and sharp pictures! What type of processing did you do for them? Are they straight out of the camera or did you use USM?

Thanks.

Check my site:

Check the Auckland Zoo, Sunrise and Panoramas pages.
These are all 10D + 28-135IS.

And yes, I do know the birds page is currently broken.

Thanks. I used Photoshop with Fred Miranda's 10D Action. After downsizing I sharpened more with USM. I also, used levels, curves saturation etc. and in some cases blurred the background to reduce "DOF" with Gaussian Blur.

Here's my fotopic gallery, just a few flowers. The files are untouched! All photo's taken without a tripod. I have been very impressed with the Canon 28-135 IS lens & 10D combo. Not had any problems with focus and compared to my E10 the Canon is in another league.

How you blured background with Gausian blur?
Send me tutorials, please!

I use a tool (usually I use the Lasso tool) select the flower and then under the Select Menu I pick "Inverse" . I then use "Gaussian Blur" and blur to the point where I like the look of the picture. Sometimes, I have to then blur a little more along the edges.

RFMSports,

Since I have seen a lot of your shots, I want to ask a question, everyone feel free to give your input too.

Give some choices of lens, is there any advantage to having the 28-135, 70-200L & that famous lens of yours 100-400L. Seeing the shots with the 28-135, if the 1.4 teleconverter was added you really would you need the 70-200?

The 28-135 takes nice shots. Are you or anyone planning on getting the 70-200L, I see a lot of rave reviews for that lens.

Just wondering.

Thnx.
