Okay, I used to travel to the UK on business monthly. This trip will be purely just for fun. I will have the wife and kids with me, and I have to do the Dad visit in Hook for one day, but the other 9 days are a blank slate. I would like to shoot something sporting while there. And while I love London, we will only be spending a day or two there max as I have been there - done that to death. I may even hop on the Eurostar and drop into Paris... but would love to keep off the continent this time if possible. Any kind of sporting event would be great... we will have a car so we can get anywhere.

Cheers.

How far are you willing to travel?

How far are you willing to travel? Looks like you're about to be tempted into a trip to Anfield Mark! That would be an excellent day out - and that's from a Leyton Orient supporter ;)

I think the main thing to consider is the access you'll have at different venues. If you let me know the dates that you'll be here/free, I'll see what I can come up with from a fixtures point of view - some sports/venues will be easier to shoot at than others.

Might be worth checking with some of the motorsports folk as well. Those guys can often get great shots from the stands, so a trip to somewhere like Brands Hatch might not be a bad idea.

One thing that is guaranteed is that there should be plenty of opportunities... football, horse racing, rugby, blah, blah, blah...

I've got 9 days - so just about anywhere. Last time we drove up to the ferry and went over to Ireland. I make the Car Hire people sorry they offer unlimited miles. So if you all have some ideas... I can work anything. I would arrive on Saturday - I think it's the 25th.. and leave out either the 4th or 5th.. out of Heathrow. Hook is near by so I can visit family inbound our outbound. Thanks for any help!

First thought...

You could combine a trip to Hook with the Nationwide Conference South fixture at Farnborough Town (vs St Albans) at 3pm on Saturday 1st April 2006. Should be no big problem shooting from the spectator areas at that one, but it's a reasonably good standard of football... and it's just down the road from Hook.

More thoughts to follow...

If you're thinking of Eurostar they have some good prices if you book as far in advance as possible.

It's a shame your visit isn't a week or so later. First meeting of the 2006 British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) is at Brands Hatch on the weekend of April 8/9. There's a BTCC Media Day / Test session there on March 28th, but you may / may not see much action there...

I'm sure some of the more experienced Motorsport crowd will chip in, but you're coming over right at the start of the main UK season so there might not be much on...race dates are still being decided though :)

Lower league footy should be a good option, although you can pretty much forget the Premiership and Championship, you'd be lucky to get in with even a half-decent SLR & Lens.

You all are making me miss my old job where I hoped over when ever I wanted...

Superbikes is sounding intersting.

Nationwide Conference South fixture at Farnborough Town (vs St Albans) at 3pm on Saturday 1st April is also looking ineteresting and would work well for travel plans.

Keep the idea coming .. this is the stuff I was looking for. My wife on the other hand things I am crazy. Looks like I will be owing her a trip to high street while there.
