I shot these images at a recent wrestling match. First shot was taken without a flash. I was not satisfied with the lighting so I decided to try a few shots with my flash and lowered the ISO.

First photo
ExposureTime : 1/250Sec
ISOSpeedRatings : 1000
ShutterSpeedValue : 1/250Sec
ApertureValue : F2.8

Second Photo

Used a flash

Both are very good shots.

I would like to suggest for future reference that you might look into the custom setting procedure for White Balance. You will only have to do it once and store that setting in your camera. Use a neutral gray card. It does not have to be the standard 18% - just so it has no color cast - just neutral gray. The Users Guide will tell you to use a white card but in a footnote they mention that a gray card is better. The lighting in such a gymnasium is probably very constant over time, so you might get away with one custom setting stored for that location, but to be on the safe side, you should do it at each match - especially when at "away" matches.

Robert,

They were shot in Raw; I usually don't bother with a custom white balance when shooting in raw. The other problem is the color cast reflected from the matt. I am not sure if a custom white balance would have solved the problem. But I will give it a try.

You do not mention what camera and what lens. I used to shoot with an f 2.8 and found it rather wanting in these situations, to say the least. I now use the 85 f1.8 and the difference is astounding. I would never go back to the slower lens.
