Went to the zoo the other day trying out the 100-400L with 1.4xTC. The image quality seems to be acceptable to me. What do you think? The only thing I don't like is shooting without AF:confused: Here is a couple (both taken with 100-400L + TC; 1st one at 400mm and 2nd one at 560mm):

Looks darn good to me. I have been shooting with a canon 2x tc and do notice a little degradation of image. I want to try a 1.4. For some subjects the tcs are the only way to get close enough.

Dennis - As I said the only thing I don't like about the Canon 1.4xTC is lossing of AF. I heard that AF would be retained using the Tamron TC, but am not sure about the quality.

Anyone has any experience with the Tamron TC?

I use the Canon TC with taped over connections, the autofocus can be a bit slow though
