Has anyone successfully used a non-cannon flash with the Pro90. I would like to use my Mecablitz 40 MZ-3i.
The manual states that it is cabable of E-TTL for Cannon cameras. I emailed Metz for more info. I've been using this flash with my Nikon CoolPix 950.
I was hoping to get Full TTL from the flash with the Cannon.
Any thoughts..???
Thanks,
Phil

I had some other thoughts on this subject:
Has anyone tried using an external Flash bracket with this camera. It would seem that it would be difficult to Zoom with your Right hand. You would then have to reposition to take the shot. I'm assuming the flash would be on the left side of the camera. Also, how secure is the tripod mount on this camera?
Thanks in advance,
Phil

See this page for some flash-info: http://www.botzilla.com/photo/G1strobe.html. There is also some info about a Metz unit.

Still haven't heard back from Metz. It would be nice if they responded to this. I would bye another SCA module to make my flash work with the PRO90 if that's what it takes.

I just came across the following info regarding the use of a Mecablitz MZ-3i on a PRO90is:
For the connection of a Metz 40MZ-3i to a camera of type Canon pro90is
we recommend the use of the adapter SCA3102. The mentioned combination featured the following flash functions:
- Flash readyness in viewfinder of camera
- Automatic flash sync speed
- TTL-fill-in flash control
- TTL flash compensation
- E-TTL flash control
- 2 nd curtain sync
- Powerzoom control
- Flash range on display
- Automatic flash programmes
- FP-high speed sync
- Longtime sync
- Wake-up
Sounds too good to be true!!!!!
What do you think?? How do we confirm this without my buying a ~$70. SCA3102 adapter??
Thanks,
Phil

LOl,
I dont see how you can do it without buying both unless you know a store that has both and will let you attempt it on their demo model. What is the source of the information?
I dont remember if that site on the G1 flash had the sca tested for a voltage rating. It does sound to good to be true though doesnt it?:-)

The info came directly from Metz. It seems to contradict all the info that is available on these Forums.
I would buy the PRO90 and try to find the adapter locally. However, I'm still concerned about Low Light focusing, such as, at parties.
Don' t know what to do yet!!!

I just bought a Sunpak AZ4000 flash for my Canon Pro90. It works fine in my machine.

I, too, am trying to figure out which flash to get for my Pro90. I stumbled across the following quotes regarding the G1 (is it same for Pro90?) at http://tedfelix.com/CanonG1/Flash.html
"Users on rec.digital.photo have reported success with Wein's HS to PC adapter (with voltage regulator) and Vivitar's 285HV. With this HS to PC adapter you don't have to worry about high flash voltages frying your G1. It reduces the voltage to something the G1 can handle."
"Sunpak's 383 Super flash looks like a really affordable and flexible non-Canon flash that should work well with the G1. Non-TTL auto-exposure capability. It has manual power settings so you can do flash exposure compensation and fill flash. I believe only Canon's top-of-the-line 550EX has manual power settings. Personally, I'm looking at the Sunpak Auto 544 potato-masher flash. Looks like a great deal."

i acquired a metz 54mz-3 for my pro90.
I got the standard package with an sca 301 adapter (only middle pin). Is it safe to put it on my camera or might the voltage be to high.

The same topic came up on a different forum. There may be some info there that may help. Here is the URL www.pro90.info/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=504
Hope you find what you are looking for.

yeah did get some info there.
I measured 4.9 volts on the foot of the flash. There i found out that the camera can get 6 - 7 volts maximum. So it would be safe to put it on.
Now the only problem is i can't use e-ttl and those settings.
