I shot these with an 85mm 1.8 in AV mode, any advise would be great!
I cropped the 2nd one quite a bit.

They look great. The lighting conditions in most gyms is not good for taking pictures. I enjoy shooting sports with my 85mm also. Great lens.

Nice action grabs at peak moments!

I'm an 85mm lens lover, too. I've switched from shooting Av to M, though, as I feel my exposure is more consistent that way. With Av and the cycling of the gym lights, my shutter was all over the place. With the 85, I set the aperture on 2.0 or 2.2 and set the shutter speed on 1/500 with an ISO of 1600 and shoot everything in RAW. It helped improve the quality my images a great deal.

If these are representative of the shots you are getting... your on the right track. Keep it up.

Thanks guys!

I really love this camera setup, I think I'll get a 50mm next. I should get it before the rebate ends, could save me quite a bit of money if I tripled the rebate on everything.
Liza thanks for your help, I am starting to shoot some things in M but haven't tried RAW yet. The school and paper are already useing my photos, "that's cool". And the kids love them!:D

The one problem I have is not being dead on center on some shots with the center fucus on. It has cost me some nice shots. Like this one below, the crowd wasn't what I wanted that's for sure. What's awesome is that this high school kid is only 5ft 10!

Great looking shots.....What Camera did you use? Can you select your autofocus point?
If you can pick your AF point you might want to consider the center point and have it dead on your target.

Nice job great color and I know how hard it is to get white balance correct. You are not going to have any problems. You will only get better
