That band that sang "red red wine". Oh man, they are so lame, all their "famous" songs were a re-work of other's work.

So who's your lamest band? obscure and your neighbor's kid band don't count. We are talking at least a somewhat known band internationally.

If we are talking over-rated, I have to say the Beatles. I like their stuff, but I do consider them a bit over-rated.

Ha ha. I think they deserve a grand prize for "lameness". How did they make people listen to them is beyond me. Must be clever marketing.

The Father Abraham and the Smurfs left me a little cold.

"I am a one in ten, a number on a list..." got me singing that now - I quite like them - infinitely more than Madness anyway. Those 'nutty' boys were just bad.

I guess you had to be there. . .
Then you would understand.
In the meantime, I'll nominate Michael Jackson - The King Of Pop? I don't think so.
Have Fun,

The BeeGees, sniveling their way to stardom.

Don't know that song but the lyrics sound good.

Yes. That's when I started describing them that way. Ever listened to "New York Mining Disaster,1941"? Aptly named.

You might want to look at their old work Jon. They are not bad...not bad at all. But I respect your taste nonetheless.

I know I was suffering through their work at our college radio station in 1968.

Hmm, maybe you were suffering from college...period. That's why you blame it on BeeGees. That doesn't sound right, does it.

I know I'm gonna get flamed, but I must nominate Elvis Presley.

UB40 type lameness: Men at Work and their "Land Down Under" drivel ...

He is cool, but nothing special if you ask me.

Edit: That was related to Elvis's comment.

What about James Brown. A bit over-rated, no?

Edit: Not to start a new post. What about Stevie Wonder?

Ok, non of the above are lame, but certainly over-rated in my book.

And Santana! he is definitely over-rated!

And the ultimate is.... Eric Clapton.

Eric Crapton.

Ha ha. That's more classic than his work. Good one John.

Rolling Stones - never did think they did anything great.

UB40 actually has a lot of great stuff. However, "Red Red Wine" is not one of them and - sadly - that's the one that got overplayed.

"Signing Off" is a great album, wonderfully done.

Like some of their work, but I think they are more hype than what they deserve. They are almost in the same category as Eric Crapton... too much hype, too little proof.

Credit to you sir ... a cool MOD

In their very early days, i.e. that one album when they were actually all unemployed, they were good and somewhat radical in context of their time. I saw them live and they really were something. Of course, they do now suck ...

My own nomination would be ALL the bands featured in the 'My Best Band' thread.

Let me get this one right. You used the term "their" and "somewhat radical" to describe UB40?

It is true that when the first came out the very early stuff was political, UB40 is the form you fill out to get unemployment benefit over here. Just really they are more known for red red wine ect now then 1 in 10 ect

Never have been a fan

The combination of waaaaaaay OT and generally mean spirited has won this little topic a lock down.
