Well, I'm heading to France tomorrow, but before I go, I thought I'd see what you made of this one...

Always happy to hear it's rubbish, so long as I'm then informed why :-)
Have a good day.

Certainly not rubbish by any standards.
Good warm colors and pleasant sky.
Image taken from an excellent position.
A very good shot.
One little thing that you might consider fixing when you get home
from France, is to correct the converging verticals.
When one tilts a camera upwards (or downwards from high up), the the walls converge away from you.
Here they are tilting inwards. This is common and more so when using a wide angle lens.
Not difficult to fix in any reasonable editing program.
You'll find the remedy under Transform Tools.
Usually called Perspective.
Just grab the top corner handles and drag them outward until the walls are again straight.
PS The name of the Cathedral please and its location ?
Thanks

Hi Eland,
First, I've corrected the parallels a little, but didn't want to go too far in case i spoiled the size of the structure, but I will try making them straight when I have time after my trip.
Also, the sky was also altered by a simple "multiply" on the duplicate layer. It seemed a little washed out on the original... Is this cheating?
To answer your questions... the Anglican Cathedral is 200 yards down the road from me, in Liverpool, UK... I've been corrected and theis Cathedral is the largest in Britain, not just England.
My previous posted picture included the "Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King".. unfortunately this has picked up the nickname "Paddy's Wigwam".
well, off to photograph some boats... it's the river festival here this weekend, "ferry acros the mersey" and all that.

lol,
Henkbos REALLY wants you to clone out that car! :D
I like the converging lines myself,... we spent a lot of time in art school learning to draw perspective! it seems a pitty to erase it out of our photos completely :)

I occasionally have trouble getting on, usually on a Friday.
Maybe as on many forums, they work on them on Fridays.

Thank you for the name and location of the cathedral.
I have spent some time in Liverpool and Birkenhead
but never saw it.
Improving the sky is not cheating at all.
From as long ago as 1850 people have worked on their
photos to improve them. And why not ?
Those people who go by the awful name of "Purists"
can simply say "tut, tut" and leave the rest of us alone.
thanks again for the fine image and the info :)

Wow, I thought I'd created a lot of interest or somthing by the number of replies ;-) But I guess the system just caused a multiple reply.
Wow, I am surprised you missed the Cathedral when you were here in Liverpool... when I arrived, I couldn't get over the overbearing nature of it... I hope to catch a shot of it from the Wirral that will show how it stands out from the rest of the city.
Thanks for all the comments on the phot from everyone :-)
I hope to post an image or two from France shortly.

Great shot.. and I just got bak from Canterbury without an image.
Further proof that the "magic hours" before dusk and after dawn give wonderful light.

Dramatic building and a good angle. I like the colours too. The blue car stands out a mile though and i think it needs to be sharper?
cheers
Martin.
