I purchased the Canon 10D last month with three Tamron lenses 24-135 IS SP, 70-200 w/macro and the 19-35. All of these lenses have shown various degrees of chromatic aberrations with the 70-200mm being the worst. I have also experienced the auto focus suddenly focusing all the way in and out during single and AI focus modes. Tamron tech service has indicated that the continuous AF is a compatibility problem with their lenses and the Canon 10D. After shooting with a Canon lense a couple of times I found that I was also getting a softer focus withthe Tamron's also. I've recently sent my lenses back to Tamron and now I'm using only Canon. Just picked up the 100-400L IS lense (boy what a beautiful lense), the 85mm and have the new 24-70L on order. My 100-400mm shots are way sharper and more color vivbrant than any of the Tamrom lense shots. Maybe I'm just too picky, but after experiencing the clarity and color shots I had with my Olympus E20N, I was a little disapointed with the original combinations I purchased. Now my shot are much better. Just my observation!

Very much appreciated too, Ive ordered a 10D myself, im looking into what lenses to get and to be honest, I had been looking into Tamron and Sigma as alternatives as im skint :( .The thing which concearns me most is that Images seem really really soft using low - mid range lenses. Ive seen Nikon D100 pics using standard lenses and they are tops. Something really odd is happening...... although, not owning a 10D yet, I cant prove it...... and I dont believe in the "D10 is such a good camera that it highlights every little flaw of the lenses" - yet these same lenses are perfect for other cams

I'm a skinflint too,... So I have a few "Not Canon" lenses.

Though I have no experience with Tamron,. I have to say I am very satisfied with my results with the Sigma lenses i have.

FYI they are all new,. and EX series lenses,. so the 10D compatibility is not an issue as it can be with older Sigma lenses. (FYI 70-200mm f/2.8 and 50-500mm)

I am slowly growing into understanding and "seeing" the quality difference though (this I was told would happen by members of this forum,. but I needed to find out for myself I guess)

So I will eventually be looking at "real Canon" "L" galss,. but as I say I am staisfied with Sigma, and will be supplementing my existing collection,. not replacing it.

I have heard from a couple of camera brokers that Sigma has figured out the 10D compatibility thing with their new lenses and may have a fix for using the older ones also.... but you know how rumors go! I have no experience using Sigma lenses with the 10D, only Tamron. I would hate to steer anyone away from them, but the picture I took with them were really dissatisfying as stated before. I'll try posting some pics tomorrow that show what I'm getting with Tamron and not with Canon. I guess the old saying... you get what you pay for... really is true! Canon L glass is the best if you can afford it!

Its no rumor Jon,
Sigma has a fix for any compatability issue with the newer EOS cameras,. and will fix your Sigma lens for free,.. and do a complete service check and cleaning along the way.

StoneH,

Some of those pics,.. Including the two Hawks sitting side by side were with the Sigma 28-300mm "Hyperzoom" !!!

This lens is very affordable at a mere $219.00 or so. In my opinion it is superior to the Tamron which costs $100.00 more.

And because this is the only lens I own right now that can fit with the camera in my little leather camera case,.. it is on the camera all the time unless I am bringing "the big gear" out. I've taken hundreds of photos with it and I'm VERY satisfied with the "bang for the buck"

To replace that one lenses focal length with High dollar lenases,. you would need three lenses.
28-70,,
70-200mm
and I guess either a 300mm prime or a 100-300mm

Thats interesting!! the picture is very good, which lense did you use for the eagles pics? they look blurry but i suspect using that kind of range you are going to get some camera shake unless you use a tripod. (cant see a tripod being used for birds though!!)

I have still not decided yet, the sigma 28-300 would be ideal, check out my G2 pictures page, I took these pictures recently.

Even though I have ordered a 10D, Im still keeping my G2

The Eagles are absolutely terrible pics! I would not have posted then if it weren't fore the fact that I know a lot of people around here who want to see them anyway.

The Eagles were with the Sigma 50-500mm with a 2X teleconverter,.. thus the lousy pics. The teleconverter is no good with that lens (works well with the 70-200mm though) The Nest is 285 meters from where I was standing which happens to be THE ONLY place you can see the nest without trespassing on resticted government property that is Strictly Enforced! (Public Water Supply)

So they are just to far away for any lens I have. The images are cropped and what you see is all that is left of them after the crop,.. only about 800X600 pixels out of the whole 3000X2000 original :(

And Yes I was using a very good tripod and 10 second shutter delay timer (no cable release yet) to keep my hand from moving the camera. Since it is a nest a tripod works great! But thats the only time I've used a tripod on wildlife :)

I was looking at your gallery earlier today,.. re: the "rose" photo,.. the Images of your daughter are fantastic! You have a beautifull family indeed.

Is the Mountain view where you live? :D
