Have been waiting weeks for one of these guy's to show up at my newly constructed "Scottes Super Feeder". Freshly filled feeders, fresh suet in hanger... lots of action, but this is the first "peckerwood" that's come close enough for 70-200. As usual, when I have a good opportunity I'm not "ready". Just as I swing the 20D into action, this guy grab's a beak full of suet, takes off, and lands on "far" side of this dogwood, about 35ft. away. Darn birding is a serious challenge!! If I could get out of this wheelchair, I'd of chased this one for a mile in an effort to get closer!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I, I.D.'d this as a "Hairy".
