Got out to the park this afternoon,. still had a few hours of Sunlight.. if yoiu could call it that. Hide and seek behind the think clouds. Still it did shine through on occasion..

I started with the basics,. Ducks and Dogs :)

Samples don't show lens' full potential as with the low light I was pumping ISO anywhaere from 320 to 1600

So far I'm not at all concerned about the optics.. but I am concerned about how much more difficult this lens is to use and get good results from as compared to my Canon 500mm. At 2/3 more weight and no IS, slower aperture and therefroe slower shutter speeds in equal light.. handling this lens is a real trial. Even with a monster Gitzo tripod and a solid gimble head you can see the image moving all over @ 800mm..

On the other hand,. both the Zoom flexibility and the extreme focal length.. are truly amazing.... and this in a Zoom lens that is optically the equal of most Primes..

Pretty impressive, CDS. Considering that light only travels at 186,000 miles per second, have you ever considered how many hours it takes to travel from one end of that beast to the other?

That duck might have been miles away before the image reached your sensor.

looks impressive to me too, but what i want to know was how far away your subjects were. 1/4 mile or 1/2mile inquiring minds want to know

Inital tests look promising under the circumstances. Keep us updated with pictures and your honest assessment of this lens if you would please.

That is one mean, grumpy, leave me alone dog shot as I have seen. He looks like he has alot of stories he could tell.

The lens can produce impressive shots, I just don't know how people are able to use it successfully. You're showing it can be done.

Barely.. it's was a tricky tricky day of shooting and my keeper ratio is waaaaaay down compared to the Canon 500mm.
