Manual Focus Problem - A70

Greetings,
Has anyone heard of having trouble with the manual focus on an Canon A70? We have only had the camera a few weeks and everything else works super and we like the camera, but I can't get my manual focus to function. I read the manual carefully and don't think that I am in error. Also, I called factory support and they walked me through several different tests and said to return it.

What setting are you using; Auto, P or one of the others? Manual focusing is not available in the 'Auto' setting, so that could be your problem.

Yes, I have tried other settings to no avail. I have a replacement A70 camera coming from the retailer that I purchased the camera from. I just hope that I don’t have many more problems as I like the camera for the most part and did several hours of research on different cameras before deciding to purchase this particular brand & model. Of all of the cameras out there that are comparable, do you think that this was a good or bad choice?
