just got my 10D. 1st had to trade in the old 100-300 lens for new 70-100 is usm ultrasouns. the lens is fast but not very sharp at all. cant seem to get true or brilliant colors. the images are dull and soft. i set the camera for AUTO, manual white balabce on all settings
. nothing seems to imrove the image or quality. even on a tripod, the image is not even close to images from my canon g1. dose this sound like a lens or camera problem or do i need to set the white balance. please, can you give me a suggestion..thanks

I would say it is more likely the lens than the camera. Have a look at This (http://www.photographyreview.com/PRD_83423_3128crx.aspx) link for other peoples experience on this lens.
Plus you have got to remember that the EF100-300 lens is a very sharp lens for the money, I still have mine for lightweight use even though I have purchased a 100-400L IS

Check out this link for a simple way to check camera focus performance:

Also 10D images are softer than many P&S digicams because there is less sharpening applied in-camera. Better to post a sample that is a 100% crop with EXIF data, so we can take a look.

I don't think you're going to get much useful advice without providing a sample image or two, along with "EXIF" info (the settings used for the shot).

I was having trouble getting the colors right when I got my 10D. I ended up resetting everything to factory settings (reboot the camera in effect) and has been great since. I use the following canon lenses
24-85 f3.5 USm
100-300 USM - because it is light
100-400 IS L - a great lense
16-35L
100 Macro (on order)
I spent the weekend at the Montreal Grand Prix and shot everything in RAW and the converted to TIFF. Most of what you see are the converted Tiff with just minor touches in Photoshop.

i am very happy with my d60 and not very expensive lens (sigma 24-70/2.8, 50mm macro, 17-35, 70-300 apo)
i have no regret not tochange my camera for a 10 d

I've been using my new 10D with the Tamron 28-75 2.8f XR Di. I've used the focus test described in many posts and find no front or back focusing problems and the shots I get appear to me to be as sharp as one can expect from a zoom.
I'm very happy!
