Who's intrested?
What date/time?

Inquiring minds want to know!

UPDATE: the date is most likely Feb. 12th and we'll be hitting Big Bear.

I'm very interested! :)

I've never been to Big Bear before so I don't know any good spots

But, anytime is good for me Morning, Noon, or Night doesn't matter here. But were you thinking about doing it on a weekend?

Definatly on a weekend!

Any and all are Welcome, Doesnt matter if your using a P+S or a 1DsMkII!

The lake is always pretty, and after all the rainfall last year, should be at a pretty good level, I'm open to any and all sugestions regarding places to shoot.

Johnny, I'm in.

January is pretty tight for me, and I'll start travelling for work at the end of February.

Are you thinking about going up there while there's snow? Do they have snow?

Steve

I think they do get snow up there, but I'm not sure which month it begins to melt in.

Steve were you thinking early/mid February? The end of January is going to be pretty hectic for me as well, and I think the beggning of Jan may be a little too soon...

Mid-February would be cool with me.

I'll ramp up work-related travel in late February or early March, which entails about 7-10 days a month.

The only concern I would have is with weather. These are (suppopsedly) our wetter months, and I'd hate to be caught out there taking pictures in the rain. I was caught out there skiing one time in the rain, and it sucked.

Anywho, I'm pretty much open...

Ya, that is true. Those are the months that usually hold the most rain. And I cant imagine being up there and getting caught in a rain fall

We'll have to see what Johnny says to all of this. Other than the end of January I should be open pretty much any weekend.

I'm in if I can make it work. I work weekends though, so I can't make any promises. The only reason I made it to the Catalina trip is because Noni happened to schedule that one during a two-week vacation I already had approved. I'll see what I can do this time... :)

A lot of us from all over California have already been chatting about a meeting and swap meet. It would be fun to have a really big group so if any of you are interested in making a bit of a drive, check out this thread.

Mid Feb could also mean another Photo Op-

the Tour de California.

It's supposed to be a 2+ week cycling event that will be populated by the same teams in the Tour De France; Minus Lance as he is now retired.

Haven't seen the official course yet; but it should go through central Cali and at least one stage will be form Sacto to Tahoe; a horrible stage for a ride ( I ride and have driven it; I can't imagine pedaling there!

Just a thought....

That sounds interesting as well, Big Bear Saturday, Cycling Sunday! ;)

I still think I prefer Big Bear, but I don't believe there is much snow up there right now, and I'm told it usually melts in March or April. So if we wanted to get there while there still may be snow that might be something to think about.

But that cycling event does sound nice. Do you know what part of Central Cali it would be in?

Theres normally snow in Big Bear this time of the year, but I dont believe there is much up there now (been a dry year) Mid Feb. works well for me, as long as we work around Valentines Day.

You'd have to listen to the wife complain about your driving for three hours, but, sure...

My schedule is always awful but I will be watching this space for updates ... I have an almost new truck camper that needs use ... besides, I need to meet Johnny and Steve in person.

Sheesh, I missed the date but now see it, weekend of the 12th of February ... did I also miss the place?

Steve Parr

I've got two concerts to shoot on February 4th, but the following weekend is clear.

Zach, I think the wife and I would probably drive up on our own. We could certainly ride up with you, but would need to stop once an hour or so to satisfy my nagging nicotine fit...

Thanks, Johnny, I will discuss it with the boss and check my casino shooting schedule. Yup, I think you should update the earliest post. Anyone know of a place to stay in a truck camper in Big Bear? I will report in when I know if we can make it!

Just checked the casino schedule ... looks like I do Englebert Humperdinck on the 9th and then I am free for a week or two so now I only need to get approval from my management. If we come we will be bringing my four year old daughter.

I will try to make it. What do you all do at these meet-ups? Eat, Drink, Shoot, Drink?

DwightMcCann
10th of January 2006 (Tue), 12:09
Drookie, my experience would suggest that "it depends". I don't drink a lot. If I come I will have wife and 4 year old daughter. I will want to shoot and try to see through the eyes of others. I also have common interests with Johnny and Steve and just want to meet them and find out if we can stand each other in actual, personal contact ... if so, I'm planning on bonding ... if not, I will take a lot of pictures of my girls! :-)

The poll is up for the California meet up!

Steve Parr

If I can make the meet in central California I will, although my travel schedule ramps ups here real soon. I would think San Luis Obispo would be an overnighter.

As for Big Bear, I could make that a day-trip if I had to and, if the schedule allows would certainly be there...

I may or may not be in California for this... Might be heading up to Alaska for a few weeks for work, Time will tell...

Bloody heat has melted most of the snow in Big Bear, I do wish the weather would make up its mind.
