I shy away from offering critique Peter, as I am total novice,.. :D
But I love to see great pictures,.. and have no problem letting you know that I am impressed :)
I especially like your slow shutter shots.

You've done a great job, can I ask you what lens did you use for these shots?
thanks

Thank you. For these shots I used the Canon 24-85mm USM lens, which was recommended to me as a good, sharp, reasonably priced walk-around lens. I also bought a very used 80-200mm L lens, which I love, but I don't think any of the shots I posted were with that lens.

on the first (daffodil) shot, did you edit it with PS? because I'm trying to determine what's in the background (the blue color) and it only appears to be the leaves and foliage of the plants, but I've never seen blur leaves :P
oh, and you seem to like the long exposure :P Those are some great shots, and obviously with the tripod.

The blue background are plant stems - I used auto levels in PS Elements and this is how it came out. I thought it was a bit more interesting than having a green background, although not very realistic of course. I often try auto levels and if I don't like it I adjust them manually.
This was my first time using a tripod, and now I see why it is so important! It was hard to get crystal clear images handheld at the long end of my telephoto.
Thanks everyone for the responses.

I took the time to go through your gallery and I must say that all your shots are very nice. Good eye Peter.

Peter,
the shots from the amusement park and the shot of the dafffodil I did not like (hey, you can't please every one). I just did not think that the subject matter was that interesting. The composition, however, was quite nice.
The photo of the river I found most impressive. The reflected colors in the water really make the picture for me. I do find the stick on the right a bit distracting though.
The tones and contrast in the black and white shot make an interesting photo while the trail leads the eye in.
Portraits I have no business saying anything about as I am no good at people shots. I did, however, really like the not so close up shot of the little girl :)
