I recently bought a A70 and am very pleased with it, but am having one very perplexing problem in transferring images from the CF card to my laptop. On my desktop I use a Dazzle USB reader that works just fine. But on my laptop, an IBM Thinkpad 385 running Win95 and with two PCMCIA slots, I can't get things to work. The card services program recognizes the CF as a Lexar ATA Compact Flash, but when I try to complete the setup I'm told I need to install drivers. I've searched everywhere but can't find any drivers anywhere on the net.

Can anyone offer any suggestions? I've hit a dead end.

Thanks,
Jim

Try this,. I know its going to sound odd,. but it worked for me on my old Win95 laptop,..

When it asks to install drivers say okay or "next" I on't remeber exactly,. but just continue as if you have drivers,.

when it asks for a location,. let it look on its own untill Windows is confident there are no drivers.

Then check my computer and see if there is a new removable drive letter there.

You see,. for Compact Flash in a PCMCIA adapter you don't need drivers,.. support is allready built in as part of the PCMCIA protocol,. but for some reason Win95 is too stupid to bellieve it.

Anyway it has worked for me in the past on a few notebooks running Win95.

Success!!!

Thanks for all your suggestions.

I thought I'd document the "fix" here so others "neanderthals" still using Win95 laptops might take advantage of my quagmire these past 4 days (on and off anyway).

Again, this problem occurred on an IBM Thinkpad 385E with all the latest drivers from CardSoft for the PCMCIA running Win95 4.00.950b.

The problem was in the CONFIG.SYS and after almost infinite attempts by trial-&-error, here's the CONFIG.SYS that worked...

DOS=HIGH,UMB
LASTDRV=Z
device=C:\WINDOWS\cs4232c.exe /W
device=C:\WINDOWS\himem.sys
device=C:\WINDOWS\emm386.exe NOEMS x=D000-D7FF
rem SystemSoft CardWorks(TM) PCMCIA drivers:
rem SystemSoft/PCCard configuration -- Do not remove EMM386.EXE
rem SystemSoft CardWorks(TM) PCMCIA drivers:
device=C:\CARDWORK\CARDXTND.SYS
devicehigh=C:\CARDWORK\SSCIRRUS.EXE /SKT:4
device=C:\CARDWORK\CS.SYS /POLL:1
device=C:\CARDWORK\CSALLOC.EXE
DEVICEHIGH=C:\CARDWORK\ATADRV.EXE
DEVICEHIGH=C:\CARDWORK\MTDDRV.EXE
device=C:\CARDWORK\CARDID.SYS

...rem Your personal setting to the above may vary.

In any case, I'd hate to think anyone else would have to "logiic-out" this mess!

I still can't explain it....but it works.
