A70 and filters

Hi

I have some 52mm Nikon fit filters, with a "female" fitting and know that there is a converter LADC52C for the A70 but it also seems to be female, therefore how do (or even can I) use my filters with the A70 ? They are mostly all Hoya filters.

Apart from that, after two weeks of ownership, I have to say I totally love my A70 and it has already let me start to take photos which I never quite managed with a film camera but always "saw"

Why do you want to use filters with a digital camera when you can do all and more in software?

Well, lets see... you might want to use a polarizer to cut down on reflections from glass, water, or to get a better image when you take a shot in sunlight... deeper blues, crisper clouds...

How about some close up lens or diopters, so you can take macro shots closer to the subject - how would you do that in software??

Last immediate option to offer you, neutral density filters so you can use a slower shutter speed in bright light, to give 'smoky' water in a river or waterfall??

Sometimes, a filter will work much better to capture the best image to work with... sometimes it will let you do something that is very hard, if not less than feasible, to do with software...

Now, for an answer to our friend with the filters, you need an LADC52B adapter, and you may need a reversing ring to be able to thread your Nikon filters - I haven't heard of a problem, but you may have something different to the mainstream I guess...

Thanks Stuart, well yes I can (if I learn more about photoshop) do stuff with software, but call me old fashioned, I dont want to unlearn everything and would like to be able to use some kit I already have. I will bumble off to the local camera shop and ask if they can get me reversing rings,... thats the thing I didnt know to ask for but I was sure someone here would point me in the right direction, so thanks for that

Good post Stuart. But the A70 uses the LADC52C not LADC52B.

Fair doos - I forgot about polarizing filters. You can get your deep blues etc using software but getting rid of reflections and glare? Hmmm .... perhaps not - I stand corrected.

I can't help thinking though that adding filters to the A and S range detracts somewhat from having a small camera in the first place? But having said that I'm striving to master using a flash slave unit! So who am I to talk!:)

Quite right Warren... Rats, now what am I going to do with these LADC52B's??? Anyone looking for an A40 adapter, cheap?? :-)

I prefer the results from a traditional filter myself. In particular, graduated ND filters are hard to accurately duplicate on the computer.
