i had to reinstall the operating system on my laptop. how can i get new softwarefor the d30, what is the best compatible software? does anyone know of anyway to recover photos that were on my d drive? i was a sony with windows me. unfortunately the system restore was disabled to hunt for viruses when it crashed

If you had the OS on C:\ and your images on D:\ then they will not have been deleted when you reinstalled the OS and should still be there and visible as .jpeg, .tif, .crw or whatever, in their original directories.
As for software. To view or manipulate? What did you use before? The D30 software should be on the CD which came with the camera and will allow you to view your images at the very least.
