Although I am new to this forum, I'm not new to photography ;)

This image of an american lotus was taken with a Canon D30 about a year ago at kanapaha botanical gardens in Gainesville, FL. I used Photoshop CS to create a channel mixer layer to convert to monochrome and a curves layer to up the contrast and drop out the background. Hope you enjoy, comments welcome and appreciated! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v607/Racaryu/Photoshopping/maggietwo.jpg

i think, selectively coloring the flower would be great too.

I certainly can, subtle, here ya go. I also cropped a little for the square composition. http://us.f2.yahoofs.com/users/3ff879dd_100bb/368e/__sr_/9ffe.jpg?phodMtDBiLiwvmbx
