New to photography and I'm going to see a fireworks display this evening and I'd like to take some nice shots with my A85. I'd like to learn to work with the manual settings but I also want good shots. Should I use the built-in 'fireworks' setting or try to work with manual mode? If manual, what settings should I use? Any other tips?

Too late now! Next time run a forum search for fireworks. It's been covered many times.

If you have a fireworks setting that's a pretty obvious starting point. If you use manual mode try F8, 4 seconds, ISO 100. You'll need a tripod and a cable release.
