What one do you guys and gals use?
Most of the time I work out of my shoulder bag so I don't usually have one attached. When I want one it's a pain in the a** to put the Canon one that came with the camera on so I'm looking to buy one with quick connects. The POTN Op/Tech strap looks like a good one except it looks kind of wide. How long is the piece left attached to the camera? Does it get in the way when not connected to the strap?
Those that have it, what are your opinions of it. If you have any others with quick disconnects, what and where?
Years ago I had one with one of my 35mm SLR's but don't know what happened to it. I really liked it.

I use the Domke. It has rubber in the strap so it doesn't slide down your shoulder.
check it out. It's really nice and only $15.00

Well, I hated the Canon strap because it was thin and honestly, felt like it was digging into my neck when I was using it. I have an Op/TECH USA strap that I bought from a local store. However, the strap wasn't mean to be used with a camera. It's a small bag replacement strap. I rigged it to my canon with rugged shoe string type material (small knots) and used the lobster claw type latches to attach the strap to the string. The piece that goes around the neck is extremely comfortable and soft - it's made of material that's similar to those gel type wrist pads folks use for their computer keyboard.
I've attached a pic. It's also easy to unclip on the fly...for example when I want to mount to a monopod. I unhook it in a matter of seconds and I'm ready to go.
I got the strap at Hunts Camera and Video - http://huntsphotoandvideo.com/ - not sure they sell them online though.

I normally hate most of the camera straps, but I purchased the POTN Op/Tech strap and I love it. It is the most comefortable strap that I have used. In fact I just ordered two more.
The strap does have a quick disconnect about 6" from the camera on each side and the two will connect together so you can use it for a short cary strap.
This is just my two cents worth.

Go with the Optech strap . It's a great accessory and far better than the standard Canon one.

huh. The canon strap is really uncomfortable for me but it never occured to me that there are other straps out there. I love this forum. As soon as I get some $$ I'm going to order the POTN strap.

I love my POTN strap. I keep the main part disconnected except when I'm out and about with the camera. As you can see the ends connect together and its really not in the way. I would highly recommend.... and youre helping out the POTN community also :)

I just got a larger bag so I have plenty of room now.
I'll see what else some others post but so far it's looking like the POTN Op/Tech. Does it come with 2 sets of different types of disconnect ends? Looks like it in the picture.

The only place it disconnects is in the middle (far right of photo) there is a connector there, thats where the main part of the neck strap connects on. The ends on the camera itself stay on. When I don't have the neck strap on I connect the 2 loose ends connected to the camera together, it's kinda like a mini strap. I also some times use it to wrap around my wrist when taking a photo, so I dont drop it into the river, lake, creek or anywhere else I may drop it. lol

I just take the main neckstrap off and connect the ends together like in the photo I posted. Then fold the strap up and stick it in a spare pocket/space in my camera bag.

JohnDoesn't the OpTech Utility strap use the same quick disconnects clips as most OpTech straps? Because then you could just swap out the swivel connectors for the Pro Loop or 3/8" nylon for $6.99 instead of rigging it up that way to use the swivel connectors. I definitely prefer the Pro Loop ends to all of the different ends OpTech offers.
They are not listed on the POTN shop with the Pro Loop straps, but if anyone is interested in converting just about any OpTech strap (including the POTN strap) to the have different ends, or buying extra Pro Loop ends for another body or accessory, I have them listed on my ebay store here:
Pro Loop system connectors:

I use one by Cartom. Very comfortable and when the strap isn't on it becomes a hand strap.

I'm using a cloth strap that came with a sony video cam. It is similar in design to the canon strap, with two little nylon webbing straps stitched on the ends for attaching to the camera. It's the most comfortable I've used so far and, because the cloth strip is narrow, makes it easier to pack the camera with strap attached into a small camera bag.
Ideally I think I'd like a thin strap made entirely of nylon webbing, without any stitched joins, for strength.
I've always worried a little about quick detach straps coming apart when the camera is hanging on my shoulder - arrrrg!

I've used only the Canon strap that came with my Rebel when I bought it. I hate it, but I've just been too lazy to actually go strap shopping. I'll be buying the 20D next week, which means I'll get yet another strap that I hate.
I should probably just bite the bullet and pick up one of the POTN straps. At best, I'm sure I'll be remarkably comfortable and, at worse, I'll be envied and looked up to by those with a lesser strap...

Philip, I guess I was not clear as to what I am doing/using...
As much as I love the OpTech neck strap, I do not use it 90% of the time. What I use mostly is a hand strap.
The hand strap is Hakuba hand strap (not grip) http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=194759&is=REG&addedTroughType=search
Since I do want/need to use a neck strap is some situations, I modified the the hand strap to be attached to a (Ace hardware) swivel clip, which is then attached to the split ring on the camera.
When I want to use the neck strap, I unsanp the hand strap and snap on the OpTech (split rings on both starp connectors). I had purchased the Pro Loop strap and replaced the loops with the OptTech swivel snap connectors.
Now I can easily use which ever starp I want...without any exyra "spagetti" hanging off.
John
BTW...I used the Pro Loops on my walk-about Domke F-5X so I can grab it either by the shoulder strap or the short loop strap.

I use the op/tech strap with a 1dmk2 and 300mm combo and its still relatively comfortable around the neck. I wouldn't even consider doing this using the bog standard strap.

My official POTN Op/Tech Pro Loop Strap arrived today.
I must say, this is a REALLY nice strap! It's got a little stretch to it, and the foam rubber pad is sure to be quite comfy. Since my "walking around" lens is a Sigma 70-200 F2.8, the combined weight with body, lens, flash unit & batteries is over 5 pounds. This strap will make it much more pleasant to hang it around my neck.
When I'm using a monopod, I like to take the strap off COMPLETELY, and with this strap, it's easy.
Switching from the stock Canon strap to this one is like going from a Kodak Brownie to a 20D. :D

I use the canon handstrap as well, actually I normally have both attached. The handstrap is great however if you need to change lenses or do anything that requires 2 hands your in trouble. Also I find the strap is a little lose which whilst being comfortable, does mean that if someone was grab the camera, it could easily just slip off the hand. Advice, get both :D

I think the Pro strap is too wide for my tastes, since I don't try to walk about with a 100-400mm hung on the camera. I much prefer the Optech Super Classic. From their website"
" For the photographer/birdwatcher carrying a heavy camera or binoculars, the SUPER CLASSIC STRAP™ is a great option. It has the same tailored design as the popular CLASSIC STRAP™; however, it adds the patented internal control-stretch system found in our S.O.S. Strap™ in addition to our Non Slip Grip™. This combination is ideal for the individual wanting a narrower strap design that has the needed strength and comfort features required for handling a heavy load. A choice of two popular connection options are available. SUPER CLASSIC STRAP™ is sure to please! "
Like the POTN Pro strap, you can remove the center padded part and clip the camera ends together to make a handstrap (although I never do). The strap is not so wide nor so thick as the Pro strap, so it fits much more nicely in my compact shoulder bag. And being thinner, it has a nicer 'drape' and doesn't have a 'wide backpack strap' feel on your body!

You will likely have to go to a store that carries them if there is one. Maybe the Op/Tech (http://www.optechusa.com/) site might be of more help.
