View Full Version : Where are the ducks? :)

I got 'the' 70-200 L IS today and I am looking for 'the' duck. Where do you guys find 'em? I live near a lake but I do not remember ever seeing a duck there ... Hmmm?

By the way, it is not "white" for what is is worth; it is beige or something.

Here in Minnesota they seem to say "Duck, Duck, Gray Duck". Coming from Michigan, I find that quite unusual.

Ducks; Swans; Geese; Gulls how many do you want, I took this today so it looks like we've got'em all over here in Yorkshire ;)

Man those are some ugly ducks! It is my experience that it is pretty tuff to get close to ducks and geese that dont see a lot of people. Swans are usually easier to approach. Oh yea if you're in an area where ducks get a lot of hunting pressure you can forget about getting close. Best bet for getting close skittish ducks is a blind, but remember they have great eyesight and big white lenses stick out like a sore thumb.

I photographed those ugly ducks from about 10 feet away with my 24-70. They were not at all intimidated by me in the least bit. As soon as my 70-200 arrives, Iplan on going back there for some better shots. I'm sad to say that my new 24-70 is going back for an exchange for a very significant front-focusing problem :( .
