I'm looking at buying the TCON17 Teleconvertor and a Raynox DCR-720 Wide Angle Converter for my G3.

What else do I need besides the lenses?
- Do I need the Lens Adapter LADC58B ?
- anything else....

TIA

You can't use add-on lenses w/out a lens adapter. They come in 52mm and 58mm sizes. Which you want depends on the sizes of your lenses.

www.lensmateonline.com sells adapters (aluminum). So does Canon (plastic), and Kenko sells aluminum adapters as well.

I would suggest either get the lensmate or kenko. I have the lensmate 52mm (on full time w/UV and/or circular polarizer) and 58mm (always w/my canon 1.75x tele).

Mike,
I think the TCON17 has 55mm threads. The Canon
adapter is 58mm. Probably best to use Lensmate(52mm), and stepup ring.

I agree with eric1...use the 52mm and a step up ring. You will be less likely to vignette when at full wide angle than you would stepping down from a 58mm.

I disagree. The larger the opening for a teleconverter, the less vignetting there will be. I've tried 58-55 step-down with the Olympus B-300 lens (which is the old model of the TCON-17) and don't have to be quite at full zoom before vignetting is eliminated.

Sheri,

I see your point. It does make sense that the larger the opening the less obstruction.

I was thinking that stepping from smaller to larger would allow better angled light into the lens from the edges than stepping from larger to smaller.

Are you thinking about buying online and, if so, where have you found the TCON17? B&H is out of stock currently.

Thanx for the replies....

Both the Raynox and TCON are 55mm threads.

Following the thread it seems that for the Tele (TCON) a step down adapter is best 58-55 mm. What about the wide? It would seem that a step-up would be best 52-55. but....

And is it best to have each lens on its own adapter or to share. My guess would be DON'T share and buy 2 separate adapters.

Comments appreciated..

Old Gordo,

I'm in the North Land using Beaver Bucks, CameraCanada.com has the TCON17 in stock for $150 Cdn ($100 US approx)...

Waiting for all the info then ordering. They aren't sure of all the requirements for both the wide and the tele and the stepup/down rings.
