new lens

Just got my second lens for my D30 today. Very disappointed. Got a Canon 24-85 3.5-4.5. Almost every shot I've taken is very soft. The reviews I read on this lens were a lot better than this. My other lens is taking tack sharp photos.
Anyone had any experience with this lens that could give me a little more insight as to what might be going on here

Try to stop it down to F 8.0

Also: if you don't want to pay too much for a
lens better buy second hand L lenses like
to good old 28-80 L and the cheap not L
once.

Well, First of all I must be going blind or something. I shot some more today with the 24-85 and the photos looked find. Must of been past my bedtime last night.

Actually I bought the 24-85 second hand. One reason I didn't look at the 28-80 L is I was trying to get all the wide angle I could without getting into something more extreme.

The other lens I bought was the 70-200 F4 L. Love it. Bought that one new.I figured if I was only able to get one L glass lens right now, I wanted it to be on the long zoom, Where to me the sharpness is more critical.

Guess I'll go take a peek at the 28-80 L just in case I get a bad attach of GAS.
