View Full Version : Symmetry

I liked the symmetry of these seagulls on the posts. However, the color seem to distract the viewer. I tried black & white and it was blah. It was suggested that I desaturate so that the viewer is not distracted from the symmetry, but still has a senses of the ocean. Do you think it works?

I like it. The only thing in colour that may be a touch distracting is the red on the posts. Very easy to remove.

Like it too, but boosted the reds and made the ocean B&W.

Thanks. The red posts were really distracting in the full color version.

Thanks. Interesting change. My concern would be that the red may distract the viewer's eye from the birds.

I like the red boost. I think it gives you the something extra in there, because otherwise it is close to being monotone

Leave it in full colour and boost the reds. That adds interest and sparkle to the overall image which otherwise is rather blah. The red posts are great!

Here are my osbservations,
The horizon leans to the right a little bit.
I also find some of the wood work at the bottom makes the pictures a little busy and it doesn't contribute to the subject of the seagulls. Would a tight crop on the lowest seagulls feet work better?

I tend to find the wooden fense near to bottom distracting, maybe a tighter crop to get rid of the fence near the bottom, esp the plank going from middle to bottom right.
Just a different idea

THat seems to be a good idea. I like Henk's black. and cropping in the middle of the cross beams seems to my eye to tighten the focus.

brault, I really like the foreground! 2 things were distracting me. The horizon and the water color. I changed both in 2 minutes, really unprofeesional like, but you get what was appealing to my two pennies worth :)
