Does anybody have any information about how lenses wear down ? What I mean is: are lenses going to perform less over a certain periode, is there a remedy against it like re-calibrating, does Canon for example have any specifications on this matter ?? I myself faced this 'problem' while switching from D60 to 10d, the 28-70 2.8 L which performed well on the D60 now seems not so sharp on the 10D ...

I contacted Canon about this. They say that as lenses are not scratched on the surface and the interface contacts are OK lenses should performe well. But a lens also has mechanical aspects, who can wear down (in my opinion).

Or is the 10D more crictical then the D60. It could be the D60 sharpened more on the software side ....

Word is that the D60 does sharpen more in camera,. (but I am just repeating what I've read,. no first hand)

Mechanically,. the only things that I imagine could be an issue is lens focus, and internal alighnment. I do not know if these wear down over time,.. but I suppose that one of the peices of gkass could get misalighned somehow.

As far as focus, it would not be effected if you were to try manual focusing.
