We lost our beloved Daisy Mae following an emergency surgery for what was thought to be pyometra. We were devastated to receive the call from the vet that Daisy had cancer and that we only had about 30 minutes to make the heartbreaking decision of whether or not wake her up from her surgery. This was completely unexpected as when we left her at the vet the last thing on our mind was that this would be last time we would see her. The doctor found a tumor about the size of a cantaloupe that was wrapped around her main artery and said that there was no way that it could be removed. As a family we made the seemingly impossible decision to not wake her up from her surgery.

I tell you what, that was one of the worst days of our life.

Now that we have had time to grieve, we realize more than ever what a blessing it has been to have Daisy in our lives. We can’t imagine life without her but we will definitely cherish every day that she was in our lives.

She was as incredible of a dog as we could have ever imagined. She was sweet, loving and didn’t have a mean bone in her body. She made everyone that even made eye contact with her smile.

One of our favorite things to do with her was take her on drives and watch the faces of other drivers when they saw her head sticking out the window. I have never seen so many smiles in my life. Most people don’t like stop lights, we loved them. Our entire families’ life was geared around Daisy. Pretty much every thing we planned for the family involved Daisy.

It seem that far to often you see families that get that cute little puppy that everyone loves and cant get enough of …… until it grows up. Then they lose interest and the dog ends up not getting the attention that it deserves.

One of the greatest things about Daisy is how the family never lost interest in her. Every time that we walked into the door, whether we were gone for five minutes or 5 hours, Daisy was always the most important thing and we were probably even more excited to see her than she was to see us.

The following are some photos of our sweet Daisy and how we will always remember her.

Your dog was adorable. It warms my heart to see how much you loved and cared for her. If only all pets were treated so well. I know your hearts are aching but also smiling at the same time. You were so lucky to have her and I know she added much joy to your lives.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Daisy. I can imagine how you all interacted with her based on the pictures you have posted. Our family is the same way with our dog Sam; he goes everywhere with us- even to the gas station to pick up milk. He is the first thing we turn to when we come home and the best listener when you've had a bad day. I can only imagine what you all have gone through. The rainbow bridge tributes are amazing and over time help you heal. Take care of yourself and your family...

I went through this seven months ago, and I'm just now starting to feel somewhat normal. Give yourselves time to grieve; it'll be longer than you think.:(:(

Well put.

Reading your words of the loss of a beloved family member brought tears to my eyes. And to see the pictures........ made me cry even harder. I too suffered the loss of a pet this past fall. Regardless if you have your pet for 1 day, 1 week, 1 month or years and years...... a true pet lover welcomes their pet as one of the family. I can hear that in your words and see it in the photos.

My deepest condolences to you and your family as you endure your loss.

i am so sorryto hear that sad piece of news. it is always difficult when a loved pet dies, often it feels like they are even part of the family, i know that's how we feel with our dog. you're pictures show the best sides of your beautiful dog, i was smiling at them, even when knowing that she has passed on... she obviously can still bring a smile to peoples facees. Paul A; that is an amazing website, really moving, again i am so sory for your loss.

My condolences to you and your loved ones. Losing a companion animal is so very hard. My dog is 12 and I fear we are in our last year together. I find myself taking more pictures of him than ever before.

As others have mentioned, she was obviously greatly loved and so very beautiful. All the photos are wonderful, the 2nd being my favorite.

I wish you great comfort in this sad time.

P.S.
Here is the name of that book Animal Blessings: Prayers and Poems Celebrating Our Pets by June Cotner

And here is a link to it on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0062516450/qid=1136343521/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-9769068-9147104?n=507846&s=books&v=glance

I bought it after my cat passed away, and like I said...it was very comforting.
Take care.

I am so glad you shared Daisy Mae's story and pictures with us. She was obviously well-loved and, more importantly, very loving to her family.

My heart really goes out to you. I have a 10 1/2 year old Golden Retriever who is my best friend. I've had him since he was 5 weeks old.

I have a very good friend with a Mastiff and they are truly amazing beings. They are so huge physically with a heart and spirit befitting such a gentle giant.

Thanks again for sharing Daisy Mae's memory. May she live on in your hearts and memories.

Very sorry. It's always very very hard to lose a dog like that. I have a dog like yours in that everyone who meets her thinks she is special.

You are lucky to have such beautiful photos of her as a memory.

I am very sorry for your loss. I know how you feel, we lost one of our dogs to Blastomycosis (sp?), time is fading as to when it happened, but we both (my wife and I) still have a hard time looking at his pictures. It truely looks like your family had a wonderful addition with Daisy - on the positive side I'm sure you and your family have many years of wonderful memories with her.

The photo and the story brings tears to my eyes. I always thought it would be easy to put a dog down until I actually had to do it. My friend of twelve years needed to be put to sleep and the vet made sure I paid before they did it. Thank God they did as I watched her go limp in my arms and could not believe how I started to break down on the way out. I looked at my self in the rear view mirror on the way home and it's one of the only times I saw my lips quiver. I took three days off work, which might sound rediculous, but every time I thought about her tears rolled down my cheeks.

I kept expecting her in places where she was always in my way at home but she wasn't there. I symphasize with you and for a while I wondered why get another dog just to put myself through it again. I did, and I do have another dog but I will always miss that one who died in my arms at the vet.
