Just purchased my G2, cant wait til it gets here...yipee. Anyway I am searching for a card reader. I have read many of the comments on the Scandisk imagemate 6 n 1, USB 2.0. I have a Windows ME, from what I have read I should just be able to slide the compact flash card in plug it into the USB port on my computer and go about my business correct? I read somewhere about adding an additional port, external port to my computer...? Can someone tell me if this is a true plug and play device for my Windows ME?
Thanks,
The things I have learned in this forum have been so incredible...thanks,

Sorry, can't help you. I simply connect my G2 on my PC. Works great. Did once use a cardreader that was given free with a Kodak camera. It worked without any problems on a PC wit XP. The files were JPEG, so I don't know if it would have been fine with RAW files.

I don't have experience with USB 2.0 but I doubt your computer has USB 2.0 port. Probably it is an old computer since you'r still using Win ME.

USB 2.0 from my understanding is backwards compatible.
So it should work on any USB port, you just don't get 2.0 speeds.

Windows ME will support USB, but not version 2.0 only 1.1 I think thats the version number? I'm not sure that you can get an internal card that supports version two to give you the extra speed. The one company to check out and see if they have the support drivers for ME is from Lava. "Lava.com" Have a look and see.

I think backwards compatible is for the port. So if the computer has usb 2.0 port, your usb 1.1 devices can still be used, but they won't get 2.0 speed. However, usb 2.0 devices can't be used in usb 1.1 port.

USB2 Devices CAN be used on a USB 1 port,.. no problem at all.
But Devilwoman,.. the pertinant answer to your question is threefold
1. Will the Imagemate 6in1 WORK on your computer?
2. ... and if so will it work at full speed?
3. Will it be "Plug a play" ?
The answers are as follows.
1. Yes. It will work
2. This depends on whether or not your computer has a USB2 port or only USB1.
It definately has a USB port,. and thus the reader WILL work,.. BUT unless you PC was purchased in the last 4 months or so,. there is only a slim chance that any of the USB ports installed are USB2 Speed. What this would mean is that the Imagemate would function,. but its speed would be the same on your PC as a much less costly and slower card reader.
3. In Win ME it SHOULD be completely plug and play,. no drivers need to be installed. The Card reader will show up as a removable drive Icon (or as many as 6 of them) in "My Computer"/ "Windows explorer"
At worst you will need to install a driver for it the card reader.
My advice,. find out if your PC has any USB2 ports.
If so then the Imagmate would be a good choice.
If not,.. then get a much less costly one that will have the same functionality.
...here's one for Seven dollars :D
