ok, so my 50mm f/1.8 is coming in the mail, should be here in a week or so
instead of asking for sample photos, etc etc
i'll ask - what should i photograph?! :D
where will my nifty fifty shine with greatness?

Hmmm the first thing I shot on my 50mm f/1.8 was relfections in my pond to see what the bokeh was like when wide open (f/1.8) I suggest something more creative though.
Three things that I think you will have fun with that is worth a shot:
1. Low light, esspcially if that is your first prime, it shoots at least three stops faster that a kit zoom :D
2. Norrow Depth of Field: if you take a heatshot portrait at f/1.8, you can get the fact in focus but the ears out. Also try finding a subject to isolate out of its environment by using a narrow DOF.
3. Stop it down (f/8) and it was the sharpest lens in my bag until I got my 70-200 :D. I still sue it for all my product shooting.

Find something with low light, and you'll be amazed, (when compared to a kit lens at f4+).
The extra couple of stops is great.

All of those were with the 50 1.8
So my suggestion. Go find some pretty girls to photograph. Ask the local Universities/High schools (although they're on break :p).. See if they need a hand. :D

I think it does the best with people but I've taken some fantastic sunsets with it. It's very versatile! I love my fifty!

thanks guys :D
i think i'll take your advice, i can't wait.
i really want to get a shot of some weird animal, but with decent bokeh to cause it to be the main focus, the main hurdle i didn't like about my kitlens is that when i took a photo of a bird or what-not, it always blended into ther background, and you couldn't distinguish between the follige and the bird.
and i'll give hardrock cafe a ring and tell them i'm ready to shoot for them :D
cheers!

it's OOF, and it's not the best photo. lol, was just a tester to see the bokeh
i don't like THAT bokeh, but hopefully with a different backgrounds or f stop i can get some nice shots
i'm impressed with it already, but i'm having some difficulty getting sharp focus, i just need to adjust to the new lens i suppose
:D
