I need help from someone who owns a 14ex macro ring flash. Currently I am using a Fuji S1 pro with a Nikon 60mm Macro lens and SB-29 speedlite. I take pictures of eyes (at work) and use the corneal light reflection to measure the distance from the eyelid margin to the light reflection. My current speedlight has a rectangular flash unit and I turn off one of the flash tubes so I only get a single light refection. I want to switch to a Canon 1D for a variety of reasons, mostly not work related, but would like to also use it at work if possible. My question is: Can anyone out there take a picture of the face including the eyes (2/3 face in view including eyes) with a 14EX with one of the flash tubes turned off and the unit oriented so the working tube is on the top, and email it to me so I can check the reflection and see if it will work for me. I called Canon tech support and they were not able to do it for me and I don't have a local dealer who has a unit available to test. THANKS A MILLION!

Hi,
Please excuse my english, I´m not a native.
The answer is: you have all control over intensity (in some steps) and position of the two bulbs in MR14.
As orthodontist I take my professional shots with ring flash because it´s easier and faster to get and I have a Sony 707 with a slave ring flash and my wife (also a orthodontist) has a G3 with MR14. We bought sony first and after seing the results with G3/MR14, I decided to change to MR14 also. Now I´m waiting a new 10D/100 2,8 macro /MR14 arrival. I take shots with ring flash since 1984 whith a Olimpus OM2 and its TTL ring flash. Since then I am used to the drawbacks of its shadowlless results. Now, I finaly decided to by my first D-SLR mainly because of the wide range of possibilities of MR14.
Best regards
Roberto.

Thank you..However, that only answers part of the question. I am trying to find out what the actual corneal reflection of the flash (with only one side activated) looks like. Is the reflection hemispherical enough to notice or is it small enough that it looks like a 'dot'? Thanks

Best regards, Roberto.
