I hope to visit Montreal in Feburary, an extremely short trip unfortunately. 2Nights, 2Days (get there at night, leave in afternoon). Please list me the *BEST* places to take photos!
I'm planning to go out with my 18-55 during the day to capture the city as best I can, some PJ work... then maybe the 50/1.8 during the night but I don't think I can take any available lighting shots.
I'd also like some landscape/cityscape shots, and I really want to leave her on a tripod and absorb the city lights at night somewhere..

EcoMuseum if you like animals - particularly birds of prey, wolves, or coyotes. You'll get some excellent shots of all three. They have many other animals there, but I think these 3 give the best, most natural looking shots. (Do a search in Nature & Animals for "GCPS" and you'll get a ton of examples.)

There is the biodome which is pretty good but not flashes allowed.
Landscapes are pretty much everywhere. Go to the top of mount Royal and you get a good view of downtown from above.
The Olympic Stadium is with the biodome.
As Scott said, the Eco Museum is a favorite.

Mount Royal has a couple of lookouts that give stunnig views of the city from a couple of different directions, if the weather is clear. Just walking along Ste Catherine Street during the day will give you countless "people" shots.
If you are looking to visit a couple of places like the Eco Museum and ned guide, drop me a PM when you have the dates you will be here and if I'm work fre, I'll be more than happy to give you the tour.

If you like old buildings, a visit to Old Montreal would be in order. Plenty of interesting shots there. Bonsecour Market and Bonsecour Church, Chateau de Ramsey, Notre Dame Church to name a few.
All within close proximity to Downtown.

I really have to plan a tour of the city some time. I'm up there visiting Ian and Sheldon frequently, but we're always looking for animals. Montreal itself is a pretty cool city. I could easily spend a long weekend just touring the city itself.

I know a "Sheldon" in Montreal. He doesn't work in a music store, does he?
How many Sheldon's could there be?

I was in Montreal in October, and took a walk through this enormous farmer's market. Plenty of photo opportunities there...

Steve:
That was either Jean Talon or Atwater Market, you're right great places to shoot.
A few more options; Isle Notre Dame (Expo 67) still some of the old pavillions being used and make good shots, in summer there are floral displays and the Grand Prix, the casino (good night shot). In winter skating, skiiing and winterscapes.
As mentioned earlier Mount Royal has several lookouts as well as Beaver Lake, the Cross and lots of trails crossing the Mountain.
Downtown at this time of the year has plenty of opportunities to shoot the decorations that were put up for the Holiday Season. Will be shooting them this weekend and posting them next week.
There are also the ethnic areas, Little Italy, China Town etc.
Would be glad to meet anyone coming to town ad show them the sites.
Here is a shot taken downtown earlier this year.

Pretty sure it was Jean Talon. While waiting for an appointment at one of my dealers nearby, I grabbed a cup of coffee and went walking...
